I honestly need to buy a new computer, and I'm deciding whether or not I'd buy a laptop instead? Can you guys cite me the advantages and disadvantages of each? I like the sleekness of a laptop and because you can carry it anywhere, but I'm afraid that it'd not live much because I use the computer literally the whole day, perhaps they're not built that way? I also need something that could withstand heavy memory usage and multitasking because I'm that person. Which do you think should I buy? and Why?

Well, if u want a laptop, go for HP, if u want a laptop go for dell and if you want a high-end gaming laptop, go for alienware. HP is very good at desktops and good deals can be found at a fair price. Dell is good at laptop parts and alienware rocks.

You need not worry about the endurance of laptops anymore. These days, laptops are becoming as competetive with the desktops that often has a lot of patrons. Don't get me wrong, I'm still one of those who would prefer to have a desktop than a laptop, given the choice of course. Laptops now-a-days are built to do more tasks put together. Some laptops are even designed for gaming so you should expect it to last long like how gamers would spend long hours in gaming. There are also ones that were designed for technical purposes like graphic designs with softwares that consume a lot of memory. And you can't ignore that some laptops are designed to provide multimedia purposes like video viewing with good display quality and music listening accommodated by good audio. All the advantages and disadvantages are common, convenience to bring it to any place you want and then the life span of the battery in case you won't plug it to an outlet. Insufficient space for data can always be improved either with an external data storage or upgrade the hard disk within the laptop. If your one who always moves around and needs a computer close by, get a laptop but, if you have that working station where you can focus everything that you need to put your attention to, you can consider a laptop or with a fully equiped desktop computer. The choice is yours.

Lenovo - Lenovo is a very good brand computer that I like.
Hello laydee. I think that it all depends on how much you want your computer to be, a laptop one or a desktop one. Your preference is very important. To me, I always like a laptop one for its convenience. Now a laptop computer is not very expensive at all. Just a few days ago, I went to a computer shop to find that a laptop of 320G is only more than 5000 RMB, whose brand is Lenovo, a very good brand computer that I like. If I were to renew my current laptop, I would get one of that kind. I wish you to make a decision of yours soon for a new one, my dear friend.

Hello laydee. If you would have asked this question a few years ago then may be it is valid, but now-a-days, I think laptops have far too much overtaken desktops in most matters that once used to be the weak points of laptops like battery, slow, less load bearing capacity, etc. But still I could give you a comparison: Laptops: A: portable, smaller foot prints, quiter, all in one package. D: easily stolen, no expansion slots(but today in some we do have), difficult to upgrade Desktops: A: more expansion slots, easier to upgrade. D: heavy, not portable, many subordinate items all spread up, takes much space. At last I would say that laptops are much better option now a days and also cost is reducing day by day (if cost is a matter to you). Happy MyLotting. and plz do tell me what and which one have u bought.

First of all the laptop is very easy to transport and it might come in handy if you travel a lot or study or things like that. But on the other hand you will have to pay more money for performance than if you choose a desktop. The absolute cheapest solution would be to build a desktop yourself - or get someone you know to help you. But we need to know a little more about programs you plan on running. Are we talking programs like Adobe CS3/4 or just plain MS Word. Or is it 3D modelling? Are you going to play new 3D games on it? Personally I would pick a laptop if you are not going to use it for games. One with a Core2Duo 2-2.5GHz, 3GB ram (4GB if Vista) and not less than 320GB HDD. Hope this helped a little bit more. Good luck!

Vista sucks. I rather stick to Windows XP or replace Vista with Windows 7.

If you want to buy a desktop computer, my suggestion is HP. If you want to buy a laptop, ASUS is the brand to go to.
