How Many Doctors Would Do This?

I was just watching on the news about a woman who adopted 13 kids. Many of them are now in college, some are still little. This woman got into a car accident and was going to be handicaped for the rest of her life if she wasn't going to get a super expensive surgery. Needless to say, she didn't have the money. Kids wanted to find a way to make money to help their mother because she was the only person who really cared for them, she was their mother. When they all came over to visit her in the hospital and doctors saw that she has adapted 13 kids, they realized that if this woman was to be handicaped the kids would be sent back to the orphanage and will lose their mother already for the second time. Doctors did the surgery for free, simply because they felt bad for the kids.
This happened in Russia and I was very happy to find out that there are people out there who would adopt kids who at one point used to be drug addicts or that were handicaped themselves (one of the boys didn't have most of his left leg) and I was glad to find out that there are doctors who want to help simply because it's the right thing to do. To be honest I haven't seen doctors who would do a surgery like that for no cost at all. I wanted to cry when I saw one of her daughter singing a song about mother and how great mothers are.

Thank you for posting this very inspirational story. Very inspiring to both the doctor and the mother. To be honest, I was not able to believe that there are still people who can do this especially with the kind of economy that we have right now. Wherein the economy crisis that we are experiencing are not only happening in one place but to the whole world.
In my own experience in the country where I am living in, only those doctors who are practicing in the government institutions do stuffs for free or cheaper and who mostly visible in medical missions or rural areas. But those doctors who practice privately, really ask high professional fees from patients. Just like the case of my grandmother who is under going dialysis, we keep on paying the doctor every dialysis session even though he will not be going to the centre doing rounds.

Russia used to provide free medical care, but i think they are now changing it to more capitalist medicine. surgeries are one of the things that have to be paid for by patients now. My guess is that some of the doctors there are left from the good old days when doctors only went into the field to help and not to make money because doctors weren't getting paid as much. As for the mother, Russian government did a great thing, they allowed single mothers to adopt. Now all the women who were unable to have a family can have kids and kids who didn't have parents can have mothers. Not a full family, but it's so much better then what it used to be. Actually it worked so well that there are almost no kids left in orphanages in russia where just a decade ago there was a huge problem with having way too many kids without any family to take care of them.
You have to pay a doctor becaseu you grandmother is on dialysis? this is terrible... I didn't know you have to pay for the doctor too. Dialysis is expensive on it's own, this is criminal. I hate it when doctors are getting overpaid like this. And here is a good question, would your grandmother end up needing dialysis if her doctors were so darn good? I think you should charge her doctor instead for not being able to prevent kidney damage.

What a beautiful story and thank you so much for sharing. Its nice to know that there is still some great people in this world with a big heart. I don't think you would find many doctors willing to do a surgery for free. Don't get me wrong there are some but I believe very few.

Yes, i agree, very few people are left who would actually help people like this. I've seen too many people being in a terrible state just because they can't pay their doctor :( If only there were more doctors like this who actually want to help people and not just their own pockets.

oh this world is not such a good place, luckily there are people out there who make it just a little better. I love seeing things like that in the news instead of hearing about war and murder.

I don't know that there are many doctors that would do something like that, but I am proud to say that if I was a doctor I would do a lot of charity work. I actually was at one point on track to becoming a doctor and my goal was to provide free/low cost medical care to the people of Eastern Kentucky that wouldn't have had quality medical care any other way.
The reasons for my goal in life were to provide hope to those that wouldn't have had it otherwise because that's the way that my parents brought me up. However, I see that the majority of people in the medical field are in the field for the money.

yes, there are many people out there who want to help, unfortunately not enough and many of them can't get through all the schools. I went into medical field myself to help people, but after studying it for 2 years decided to go into alternative medicine instead, much faster and there is more elbow room. Plus alternative medicine often is more helpful then traditional. whatever way you go, there is always a potential to help people. I was very happy to learn that there are people out there that would help both kids and a mother
