Do You Believe Your Death Was Predetermined When You Were Born?

This is a discussion about death. I’m not feeling particularly morbid; I just got to wondering this morning whether everyone’s death is predetermined or not.
If the date of our demise is already cast in stone, I guess nothing we do while we are alive can change it, right? Or can we?
Some may say that if our end date is already certain there may be little point taking care of ourselves or watching out for danger because it would not happen until it was meant to; we have certainly heard of survival “it just wasn’t meant to be” stories…
What do you think? Do you believe that death is a matter of our number being up or was it something that was ‘decided’ when we were born?

No matter is predetermined or not, i dont care of it.the most important is today but not tomorrow.if it is certain that it is decided when we were born, what would you like to do?
in fact, i dont belive it. i believe in that life is handed in my hand.

Some folks lose their life suddenly through accidents etc. I have to wonder if those occurrences are part of life's plan... Thanks for stopping by balasri!

That is a good thinking. But imagine a person who is destined to live for eighty years standing rock solid as he is hit by a speeding car because he is supposed to live for long.Won't it be a freaking sight.I think God has thought of everything before letting us into this place.

This is an interesting premise, that's for sure! I don't believe our life span is necessarily cast in stone when we're born because there are way too many influential factors that will play a part throughout our existence. We do ultimately have the ability to control certain outcomes and there are also many things of course that we have no control over at all. Certain Buddhists believe that we are allocated a predetermined number of heartbeats when we're born. Being unhealthy, smoking, drinking etc means the faster our heart will beat and the shorter the time period we'll live because we'll use up our allocation quickly! Meditation and good health etc slows down our heartbeat, so living a life with a focus on these things will ultimately prolong it. It's an intriguing belief I reckon!
