Another user on here told me that Mylot is getting ready to start cracking down on people who are only posting one sentence as their response. For example, if someone asks what your favorite color is, then the one sentence response would be "blue" or "mine is blue", etc. I heard that people don't get paid for one liners already, but now they are going to start sending out warnings, and then banning people who keep doing this. Anyone else heard of this? What does everyone think of this ?

That's very true. Perhaps they will make it where the same questions can't be posted over and over again? That is possible, but may be difficult to do. I've seen other sites such as this that will never allow one liners, so it really wouldn't surprise me if they actually went through with it.

Yes, that is another good point. The tags aren't really working as they should. I think that should be brought up at some point. Or they could already be working on it. MYLOT hasn't been around for too long so I am sure they will continue to work on improvements.

We're already not supposed to repeat topics. They need to fix the search to be able to search topic titles as well as tags though to make this easier so you don't have to rely on being putting in accurate tags, there's been so many times I've searched for something and not found it even though there are relevant topics.

I agree with you. I seen several members replying with one word or just very short. I guess its time for mylot to do this so members would have a great discussions.

Even though they have started doing this, there are still SEVERAL replies with just a "yes" or an "I don't know". What bothers me the most though is the people that copy and paste an entire article from other sites and paste them as their own. Not only is this illegal in MYLOT but illegal everywhere.

I wouldn't know how to verify this information. I guess the only thing to do is wait and see. But how much can you say about your favorite color or the color of your eyes etc.?

Here's a thought:
My eyes are not blue. My eyes are not gray. My eyes are not green. My eyes are not hazel. My eyes are not gray-blue....
That is, of course, ridiculous. But that's how one can be verbose in replying to a silly question.

if its so then its fair on Mylots point of view becouse mylot overhere is not only to pay but also cater knowledge and also let people know each other and about different societies, so people with one liners beware and stop it if u r doin this, lets come out here and express ourself elaborately and try and enjoy over here with what we do ...

Exactly ! Very good point. Now I can understand that people are writing replies as fast as they can just to earn extra money faster, but from my point of view, this is just going to hinder things. I have made the most each day when I have written longer replies and went back and commented with quality replies. I think thats the key to earning on here, although I really do not foresee anyone striking it rich on mylot :-). As long as I keep enjoying myself though, I will stick around.

Im other words...haste to make money on mylot by writing one-liners makes waste of time for the site and its intended purpose.
Not that I am for limiting freedom of expression or encouraging what Stephen King calls verborreah of the word processor, but if we are gonna get paid for basically posting questions and answers, let's at least try and put some thought and creativity into it.

i have not heard of a policy like that. it makes sense but i don't like it because i like responding to nonsense questions. it relieves stress somewhat

I didn't hear of that. But, a lot of people ask one liner questions, so you answer with yes or now or so forth.

That is true. I wonder how they would deal with that? I guess an alternative would be to tell people to ask more quality questions? I can't see that happening though, because they encourage lots of discsussion. I am sure we will all see soon.

I agree with you. I mean some things you really can only answere with a few lines or words. However, people should really limit what kinds of discussions that are started to ones that will spark interest. Not just ones that are easy to respond to for points/money (which btw, at this point it HAS taken affect).

There is a point in what you say. To avoid one word answers you must elaborate. If someone asks me what my favorite colour is I will not answer in one word. I will first say that the colours of my school is Blue and White and who the colour has made a permanent imprint in my heart. Then I will quote a part of our school anthem including the verse "Whit and Blue our mystic colurs, till the mountains dissapear". Then finally I will say my favorite colour is Blue. Challenge me. I will convert any on word answer into a paragraph of at least five sentences.

Well, Ive seen one such on linerboast his earnings, at 1000 posts, was $10. Seeing I earned that with 300 posts, Mylot seems to reward well those who try and post on-topic, and soon these one liners will get tired of posting more and more (and earning less and less), and go away.
Hope Mylot keps improving, have a nice day!

I totally agree with you. I have seen and respondedto many discussions which can be answered in only one sentence and some times discussions with yes or no questions. I think these kind of discussions actually spoil the good will of the site and should be taken care of.

Yes i heard about that. Some postings are really funny like asking very childish questions. Although i believe in freedom of speech and i respect every individual's creativity but i think we have to adhere to the rules of website. Me for instance, i want to make nice replies. The problem is how when all you see in a page are nonsense topics. Sometimes i do get discouraged to go on because of these non-sense postings.

First of all i would like to thank you for bringing this issue into light.myLot has been doing a great thing by paying their users. We should not take liberty of it and start making one sentence post just to increase our count.
Even if there is any question whose answer is like in one sentence or one word we should try to describe it.We would have to give our time in order to earn money. We need to make this site really interesting and fill it with good description and not just one liners.People have the habit of following others. When new members see that members are paid for just one liners they will start following it.
Rules should be created over here regarding one liners.
Thanks.

Oh, I could not agree more. It's almost like sheep the way people act on websites at times. If they see quite a few people responding with one words/lines, then they assume it is ok and then follow suit. This not only brings the quality of the site down, but it also makes the site tedious and boring. As said before, I am so glad MYLOT implemented this!

Have you considered, though, the possibility that too many people who join myLot don't really like to write? It's sad but true that we live in a culture where the fine art of writing is in decline. I don't know if it's laziness, or the way English is taught in school, or if writing is seen as a waste of time, but I know just a handful of people who enjoy writing and like to make their articles/blog entries/reviews/and discussion posts both interesting and readable!

I am growing tired of seeing one liners posted her on a daily basis. Do you like potato chips, do you think I'm cute? Oh come on. Use your brains a little people. Are they afraid of posting something that will be too hard to come up with an answer or are do they think that they can't come up with something on their own?

Thank you Thank you Thank you ! Sometimes I feel like I am browsing through an online 6th graders Slam book or something ! I wouldn't mind as much if the other discussions that people took the time out to thoroughly think about weren't being pushed on the back burner with no responses. While some interesting discussions don't even have the chance to be read, there are discussions like " Name on letter of the alphabet" that are circulating on the front page at all times.

Go figure that one. I have posted what should have been thought provoking topics and received no responses. Are people afraid to use their brains?

For me it isn't so much the one sentence answers that annoy me,sometimes one answer will sufficiently answer the question,it's the one word answers I find annoying.
I haven't heard anything about people being warned or banned, but I'm new here. We will have to just wait and see. It doesn't seem like a realistic rule to try to achieve, their staff would have to evaluate every single message to enforce it.

I've never been fond of "quickie" one-liner blurbs. That was one of my pet peeves when I was an active reviewer at Amazon; I mean, how helpful is a movie review that simply states "this movie rox!" That isn't a review...it's a phrase...and not very illuminating, at that.
While there are times that brevity is a virtue, discussion or review sites are not the place for one-liners.

If they don't want one-liners, they should just enforce some kind of word minimum and not even allow you to post unless you hit that minimum. Like epinions won't let you post less than 20 words (I think it's something like that)
That would make more sense than hunting people down and sending out warnings! BTW - Hi leedug :)
