First of all I am an atheist, but this is not an obstacle to think that religion is an useful tool to reach happiness. Everybody (religious an atheists)needs to believe in something. And religion provides an explanation about the big questions: "Who are we?" "Where do we come from?" and "Where are we going?". Besides, it gives a set of moral principles and a sense of belonging that usually lead religious people to look disparagingly those that aren´t devout.
There are other options to fill these existentalist gaps: science, esotericism, philosophy...But religious is fine. Easy to follow and you don´t have to think so much. Popular, isn´t it?

haha i love the "don't have to think" part, it's very true, do as you are told and if you don't, you will go to hell. nice and simple...

The greater fraction of humanity believes in God or a god and the basic tenets of their religions serve as a moral compass in their day to day lives. I would like to think that although there are many religions and that there are a lot of disagreements in the fundamental beliefs, religion serves as a healthy element of life.

i do not believe organized religion to be vital to health. i mean for some people's mental health it is important for them to believe in something, and their faith keeps them going. i am not a fan of organized religion and believe that when it has been perverted it is definitely not good for mental health. i am talking about those religious fanatics out there, obviously something has gone wrong there in the head for them to do the things that they have done all in the name of their god and the voices in their head.

no, religeon is necessary to have easier time leading the country, to make people do what you want them to do and to get people to pay you money for branewashing them. Sry i read too many anceint scripts that prove religeon to be nothing but a way to branewash people. People have to belive not in god but in their own ability to control their own body. People's mind is very strong and mind alone can cure diseases, combine that with things that mother nature gave us (good produce, herbs, water and air) and you can be healthy. there are people who are convinced that it was God who cured them, but in reality when you pray and truly believe that you will get better, your own mind will do the trick and will cure you.
