Are you into Fanfiction?

Am I into it? Why yeah of course I am. I've been reading Fanfiction since a couple years ago. I find myself reading mostly crossovers and the fandoms of Harry Potter, Twilight, any anime fandoms, Lord of the Rings, etc.. There is so much to read and it's a good way for people to unleash their imagination to their persuasion. Right now, I'm reading an Harry Potter/Naruto crossover. This just shows how fanfiction has evolved from a small community to a larger one with a big and ongoing fanbase.

I got interested in reading fanfiction about La Femme Nikita, the TV series, but I gave it up prretty quickly. Most of the writing was so awful that I couldn't even get through some of the stories. I know that there are a lot of good fanfiction writers, but I wasn't lucky enough to find very many. I also wrote a couple based on the show, just for my own amusement. I haven't written much fiction, and since I'm working on a science fiction novel, writing short fiction is good practice.

I know, there aren't that many good fanfic writers and stories, but there are some out there that are harder to find. I'm thinking about writing an original novel; I just haven't found my inspiration quite yet. I don't like holding it off. Unfortunately I must till I find my muse.

IMaybe you can answer a question I've been curious about. Why would anybody with a talent for writing spend significant amounts of time writing something that they can't sell? If you do write your novel, you can never publish it. I realize that for some people, it's just an enjoyable hobby, but as I move more toward earning income from my writing, something like fanfiction is a real waste of time. I wrote two short stories based on Nikita, and I have to admit there's another one, much longer, that tempts me. But I'll probably never write it.

I think they write fanfiction so they can make the characters, environment, and relationships the way they want it to be. For instance, many people don't like Ginny Weasley having a relationship with Harry Potter. So they change the cannon pairings with someone else. On the other hand, you're right; if they want to make money then writing fanfiction isn't the way to go.

Big fan of fanfiction. I try to read other genres but I always wind up going back to fanfiction. I do have to ask where did you find a crossover with Potter and Naruto? I've only found the manga of Naroto. Please let me know I would love to read it!!
