Where do you get the names for your pets?

My daughter asked me today why did we call our cat "Dizzy"? Dizzy has been in our family before my daughter was born. We named her Dizzy because she used to run in circles chasing her tail and she seemed to get dizzy. We called her Dizze Devil that just got shortened to Dizzy. For days she didn't have a name, just "The Kitten".
What are your pets names and why? If you have a story to tell, lets hear it. Please share.

Usually pets get their name based on their colour... but there are other methods too.
Some keep the name of any Cartoon charachter( ... mostly their favs)... like Scooby, Scrapy, Snowy etc etc.
Some want their pets to have macho names like Rambo, Razor etc
But the best is giving them names of persons whom we hate.
Like if I hate say Anonymous then my pet wud be having the name Anonymous.
thats how its done... Isn't it cool

I don't have any pets right now, but when I have had them, I have always let them choose their own name. For example, I had a kitten that, while trying to think of a name for her, showed me her mischievious nature. I named her Mischief and it fit her well. Apparently she liked her name because she always answered to it from day one.
I have found that it is much easier to let a pet choose its own name. Through its actions or some personaluty trait, they really do show you what they are meant to be named.

I usually watch my pets as their personality comes out...but a lot of times I can tell right away by how they act. Like one of my dogs when he was a little puppy he used to climb up on my couch/chair and do a belly flop onto the floor. So I named him Diver. ANd my girl dog she was all about herself personality wise so I call her Mimi, and Clooney one of my boy dogs is all about the ladies...and I love george clooney so that's how he got his name...and my last dog I had no idea what to name him and he kept getting out of the dog kennel as a puppy so I named him Houdini, Hoodie for short. And my cat who has been with me since high school...well she looked like a little piece of charcoal so I called her Charlie.
I like to have fun with my pets names and they seem to like them alot.

I usually name my pets after famous characters. My current two pets are snow white (cat) and Princess Fiona (chicken). My two dogs are Elvis (after Presley) and Douglas (after Michael Douglas). I find it easier to remember and mostly my family we name our pets after famous people.

When I was growing up we had a dog we named scooter, because he would go running down the hall (Which had wood floors) and when he would hit the rug he would scoot the rest of the way down the hall. He would do this over and over all day long.
My dog I have now's name is Bandit. Many people think he got his name because of his black nose and the black around his eyes looks like he is wearing a mask. But the real reason he got his name was because when I first got him if he wanted something he would wait until he thought you weren't looking and then he would run and grab it and take somewhere and hide with it. He would watch the item out of the corner of his eye thinking we wouldn't notice him looking at it and wouldn't know what he was planning to do

Okay, my dog is Michela Mae. The Michela part of her name came from the fact that I was a big fan of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman back in the day and thought that I would love to name one of my children Michela, problem being I have a brother named Michael and it was just way too similar. So I used the name for my dog. Mae is from the fact that I found her on the side of the road in the country.
Our other dog is Jasmine Lady Ariel. When we got her she already had the Jasmine part of her name and my then 5-year-old daughter added the Lady and Ariel to her name because she is a huge fan of the Disney cartoon movies.

Personality, situation, and what the pet responds to.
Frisky, my first cat, was named because he was Frisky and he looked like the cat from the Frisky's box, also in one of the Superman films, there was a cat name Frisky stuck in a tree, and Frisky just seemed like the perfect fit for him.
Next was Tommy, or now known more as Dubby, my second cat, and I named him Tommy because my mom kept calling him a Tom cat, and he was a baby so I named him Tommy. His nickname, which he mostly goes by, came from my brother singing "Strangers in the Night" only it came out at "Doobie, doobie, doo", anyway, Dubby responded to it and the name has stuck ever since.
Later came Goldie, my golden kitten, so called for her golden personality and because we have paid our weight in gold for her over the years. She is loveable, she loves people, she loves attention, and she turns to gold whenever she sees me.
Last one is Lucky, so name because he is lucky in every sense of the word. He is the last remaining kitten of his litter, due to city laws, people can only have four pets per home and he is lucky number four, he wanted to be adopted more than anything, and when he was playing with my SOS pad the other day, and I thought that he would die from trying to play with it, he was okay, had no scars or anything on him, I was relieved. He has the most personality and he came to us at the right time when we had more than enough money to do all the things that we could to for him. Lucky certainly lives up to his name. I love all of my cats and they all mean a lot to me.

I have 4 cats, there names are Nicky, Kathy, Gizmo and Teigetje. Nicky and Kathy are brother and sister and already 15 years old. I choose those name because i like them and there different but end the same. My daughter named the third Gizmo(2 years)because she liked the name, by the way my first cat(mother of Nicky and Kathy) was called Gizmo too. The fourth cat is called Teigetje( 1 year), it's dutch for Tigger(Winnie de Poeh) because he likes to jump.

i usually just start at the pet's face until a name pops up that looks like it would fit. i watch the pet to observe its personality. the personality and the face will give me some idea. one of my late dog was dibbuleo because he acts like a bohemian. the other dog was tinalouise because it was stuck in my head from the gilligan's island actress. my late cat was leloubelle because i liked the sound of it together. and my current cat is gumby d'arcy because i liked he sound of it together.

We have a cat Max that my mother had given to my uncle but he couldn't take him when he moved so we kept him. He was named before my mother brought him down from NY. But my uncle changed his name from Mac to Max because my daughter was already being called "Mac".
We had a cat named Bixby. That name was from the shelter we were going to change it but he was such an odd personality that we kept it.
Then we adopted a cat that was named Whiskers. She was a loud mouth. (seriously loud) and she tells you what she wants. Simple words,"no" "in" "out" "NOW" "Momma" and even my daughters name "Mac". She doesn't like to be touched she would rather you hold your hand out and let her touch you where she wants to. She sleeps on the foot of the bed none of the others are allowe to. When we foster a group of kittens she teaches them how to act, she doesn't like to be out side if the humans aren't outside nor inside unless we are...(when we leave home she chooses inside interestingly enough) So her name changed to "Princess" because she was the Princess and Princess rule everything and make all desicions.
Now we have a half Bob cat that has moved in, he had a name we couldn't pronounce when we got him. But we named him Harley because when he purrs he sounds like an idling HArley Davidson. But when he meows it sounds like a "moo" so we affectionately call him MOO-MOO sometimes.

Hello hug14me,
I call my pet pithon "AlTazahiir". I named it liked that because when it was just 2 months old it attacked one of my guests. He was putting his hands in its "cage" and got bitten. That just proves that snakes are "born" ready for the outside world. Cheers!

You asked for it...I currently have four guinea pigs, three hamsters, two dogs and a cat.
The piggers are named Savvy (because she's so sly), Quincey (because he's a dandy little fellow), Karet (because we're science nerds and she's orange) and Little Miek (because she has eyebrows just like my boyfriend Mike). The hamsters are Scootyhoots aka HamHam (because he scoots around a lot, but hamham is easier), Rhino and Bubie (they were adopted with those names, however, Rhino is tiny and Bubie is larger). The Dogs are named Daisy and Sandy. Daisy was named by my boyfriend's sister when she was just a puppy and Sandy came from the shelter with that name. We call the cat Cinnie, short for Cinnamon because he's sort of a reddish-brown color. He's also a huge jerk.
