Is anyone else frustrated by their cell phone company?

The cell phone companies have a conspiracy against us. When you get a new phone with a contract, you can never get out of it! Most of the plans are two years long but most phones don't last that long, so you go in to get a new phone but have sign up for another two years. Then you talk to someone who has a better plan and you want to switch or see a cool new phone on tv but only for that cell company but you can't change your company without paying the two hundred dollar fee! it's one of those never ending cycles! aaargh!!

I think this means that you need to be a little more wise and a little less give me give me when it comes to things. I've had plenty of phones that have made it well past the 2 year mark without a problem. Maybe you're not treating your stuff well. You don't need to change phones every few months and if you're phone stops working, cell phone companies usually replace them or fix them.

I've only had to have two cell phones replaced because they quit working and my cell phone company was really good about replacing them. Especially since they had to be replaced because I did something stupid each time. But my phones usually last about 3 years and are still in working order when I change them out because technology has advanced. I have a drawer with my old phones in them, going back to my first phone from the early 90's. They still all work. I only switched companies once and that was because I had issues with service outages when traveling in certain areas. I'd never choose a cell company because of the phones they offer, which is one reason that I won't even think about buying an iPhone (cost being another - they're too darn expensive). I don't want to switch. I like my provider. But if someone is interested in changing phones every few months because of the latest styles or they see something better come along, it's best to just go with a pay as you go rather than getting yourself into a contract, which they aren't going to let you out of without a penalty. That's the purpose behind having a contract. They sell you a phone for probably less than they even get it for and make their money from the contract. They want that commitment, and they tell you upfront that if you cancel they're going to charge you for it.

angel, I believe I was wise when we got our first phone, we researched the companies and this phone and plan was the best at the time. And I was not referring to my own phone that has not been taken care of but my teens', plural. They treat most things well, but still drop their phones more and are a little more rough on them than me.

Yes they are big time rip off companies and I hope to get rid of my cell phone by January. I don't want to sign up for another two years. They are like the mafia to me holding you captive.

OK first of all, my phone is two years old and isn't even beginning to wear out. This will probably last me another 4 or 5 years. I don't know how far you are into your contract but whenit comes about time, go to www.consumercellular.com. If you use your phone alot they hhave plans that have free minutes. But there is NO contract. You could get it, cancel it in three months and you don't owe nothing. They also have a plan that has no free minutes and is only $10.00 a month. I guess they figure if they offer such a good deal and they are a great company, they don't have to make people sign a contract because people will stay with them anyway. I know In have no plans in changing companies.

I personally don't care for the 2 year conract, but since it is Verizon, I am happy with them in spite of it. I have no intention of changing companies whether I have a contract or not. I like the fact that they have 3G now, which really helps with the internt, as the pages load up so much faster than they did before. Maybe, one of these times, Verizon will do away with the contract part of it, but for now, I can deal with it. I hd t-mobile before Verizon, and they weren't as good as Verizon is. that is for sure. I am with Verizon because my kids have it, and it saves all our minutes that way. Take care, and happy mylotting.

Yeah I have metro pcs its a good deal but the phone selection is not that great, no 3G at all. I don't have a contract so I can change whenever I want but I need a job that has more hours first
