Sara Robinson certainly thinks so The parallels are a little uncanny, but i seriously doubt we are as close as she thinks http://www.alternet.org/politics/141819/is_the_u.s._on_the_brink_of_fascism/?page=1

On the "brink" of becoming a fascist state - no. On the path of becoming a fascist state - yes. But, this author did not go far enough back to the source, the author said it started with the Bush administration. Actually, it started with the Clinton administration. President Clinton put into effect several "acts" that could be used by a President to expand their power. President Bush took advantage of those acts and we all can see what Obama is doing. Transforming into a fascist state is not an "overnight" occurance. It takes place one "baby-step" at a time until it reaches a point where it "snowballs". Unless we wake up and reverse the steps that have been taking place, fascism is our country's destination.

i'd like to see some examples of where this has happened one little bit at a time, over many years, turning a democracy to fascism. it doesn't usually work like that. i don't think your country is in at too much, but the amount of anger coming out is dangerous, especially when it is directed towards people that actualy have nothing to do with your problems (as in the uk it seems to be immigrants, watch that one, it can get nasty)

get your point. it really depends on how large a proportion of your population have no real opinions, because these are the ones that can be swayed by a vociferous minority.

Actually Speakeasy is bang on the money, the method of fascism he describes is called Fabian Socialism. I'm amazed nobody has ever brought this up before in the politics section. Here's a link explaining it all for you, how it was created in the UK & the types of people who are currently involved in The Fabians... http://tinyurl.com/d4pkgw

fascism - one word fits all. just been responding to some of the obama is hitler discussions below. judging by history you need more consensus for it to become established, including a victim that most will agree on. i don't think it will happen in the us, at least not in the foreseeable future. nastiness can happen from a minority (look at some of the racist attacks that have happened in the uk from bnp types) but it won't take over your country. i think.
