Are school uniforms a good thing?

This school year is gonna be quite different because the school board has voted to have everyone where school uniforms. In a way I like it because I don't have to worry about buying a whole lot of clothes for my girls. The colors are red, white, blue, black, or khaki for the polo shirts and khaki, blue, or black, for the pants.
What I don't like are the strictly enforced rules. For instance, if you buy a pair of pants that have belt loops, you MUST wear a belt, or be sent home to change to meet the standards. Also, if there is a school event like a game or assembly, outsiders (who do not attend the school) MUST come dressed as the students are enforced to dress, or be denied entrance into the school. Is that wacky or what? I mean, why do I have to buy a school uniform to attend one of my daughter's games? I think that's bananas. What do you think?

I think school uniforms are a good thing because everyone is wearing the same thing and no one is wearing anything better. It will avoid fights between the kids. However, the part where anyone who comes to the school for an event has to wear or dress like the students is simply crazy. I never heard of such a thing. That makes not a bit of sense. So lets say I go to work and I have to stop at the school on the way home from work for parent teachers conference. I have to change my work clothes to dress in a uniform to visit with the teacher. Did I get that right? If so, there is NO WAY I would be abiding by that rule and I guess I won't be visiting the school. I think all the parents need to get together and fight this stupid rule. This really sounds like its becoming like what a communist country would do.

Tell me the truth. I thought my friend was just exaggerating when she told me this. So I went out and got the newspaper myself to see if it was a lie. Lo and behold, it was the truth. I thought, this school board has flipped its wig! I had never heard of such a thing. What if somebody from another school wants to come see their son or daughter play basketball or football? Yes, they have to wear the designated colored polos and pants. Nothing else is acceptable. Yeah right, I want to see how long this lasts. I'll let yall know something in the near future.

school uniforms should be necessary as it shows indias customs and traditions.but school uniform colour should never be white as it gets dirt very soon and it requires a lot of hard work to remove that dirt if you are a handwasher. most natural colour for uniform should be black in winter season as it always absorbs heat

I don't disagree with the colors the school has chosen, I just don't like some of the policies we are required to follow.

I studied in a school where we had to wear uniforms most of the week. It was not a big problem. Uniforms are okay as long as they are not expensive.

I've been looking at some of the prices on some of those uniforms. If you want quality, you have to spend good money. The cheap stuff never lasts long anyway, so you might as well get the good stuff.
