Something was stolen..Who to blame the fiancee or the househelper?

When me and my friend arrived at his house,his mother confronted him about something. The mother said that her jewelries are missing and the only ones left in the house that time was their long time househelper and my friends fiancee. The mother exclaimed that she believes the househelper because the house helper have been working for them since my friend was just a little boy and that nothing like that ever happened to their house until now when his fiancee is living with them. My friend protested and said that his fiancee wouldn't do anything like stealing.
Both the maid and fiancee was confronted by the mother and my friend and both denies that they have stolen something.
It's a pretty tough situation for my friend because their relationship might be in jeopardy.I too don't know who to believe as I do not know that deep the attitude of the househelper and the fiancee.
If you are in that situation,who would you believe and how would you solve this problem?

I know I'm not supposed to judge it as I dun even know them. But, based on the story, I guess the fiancee should be suspected. The house helper has been there for so long and I think even if she did it, it must be because of something serious which should be talked privately between them. But, even she is in desperate, I don't think she would do it as she can always just go talk to your friend's mum.
You wouldn't know someone's attitude until you live with them. Maybe your friend thought he knew his fiancee very well. Maybe he did not.
Well, just my opinion.

Hi theree and welcome to mylot,
Honestly speaking the way I see it,I also suspect the fiancee because as I mentioned I don't know her that very well yet,and come to think of it the maid have been living with them for a long time and it only means that the maid is being trusted by the family.
I'm not talking about it with my friend because it might ruin our friendship,I guess I'll just let them decide how things will be..

I don't know who to blame, but seriously before the mom would always blame it on the househelper since she's a stranger and probably planning something to do that for quite some time. how ever, you can never tell that fiancee might have been planning on his sleeve. some one is definitely lying there.
