http://www.newsweek.com/id/209817/page/1 This is what I believe, reform is not going to help me at the moment, I believe in it because I care for my fellow americans, and Id like to think they would help me out if I was ever in trouble as well.

That was a very interesting article, of coure the people in the health care industry, and the crazy people that oppose Obama's plan won't like it, but from what I have personally seen, and delt with, it is 100% true. What these people don't understand is that most of these 47 million Americans are already being subsized by the American tax payers, but at a much higher rate. These are the people that are charged thousands of dollars a day for hospital stays, because the hospital knows that they can get the government to pay for it. We need to do something about health care, it his a huge burden on the American people, and corporate America. And this is a good first step, but we need more reform when it comes to health care.

no illegal immigration is a HUGE burden on the american people.just think of all the free health care they LEECH off the american taxpayers,if obama would have taken some stimulus money and loaned to people who wants to start manufacturing once again and create REAL jobs ,then people could afford to see a doctor

Mega-non-Limbaugh-dittos! I also have excellent health care coverage and as it stands now I should be covered for life through my husband's employer but I know that could change at any time. Even if it doesn't I still care about my fellow Americans who aren't so fortunate and I've seen firsthand how devastating it can be on so many levels. Sadly, I have no doubt there will be people who read Alter's column who won't see the satire, they'll take it literally! Hey, some people actually believe Stephen Colbert is a conservative...lol! The way I look at it, we need reform and we need it NOW. Actually, we've needed it for decades. If MY tax dollars happen to go to help someone get the health care they need and couldn't get before, that's fine with me. I had no choice in whether my money went to pay for the immoral war in Iraq, did I? Since we're nowhere near having a plan completely written and ready to be brought up for a vote I have no idea if it will cost me more or not but I have no doubt that in time we'll all pay less or, in the worst case scenario break even. That's when you add up what we currently pay for premiums, copays and and other medical expenses and compare it to any increase in taxes we end with. There will always be those who argue that health care for everyone isn't a "right"; well, I say that may be true but it's the RIGHT thing to do nonetheless. Annie

"for all you bleeding heart socialist-move to a country that already has universal medicine and leave my country alone.lets work on getting rid of the illegals first, then lets take a look at health care.how does that sound?" It sounds like you'd better hope you never have a serious health issue and not enough coverage or money to pay for it! You can call me a "bleeding heart" all you want but I'm NOT a socialist and I'm not going anywhere. IT'S MY COUNTRY TOO! Annie

Wow, I'd like to know where you've found these Americans that don't need nor want health care reform. There are some but you can bet they all have the best health insurance money can buy and they don't think they could ever be in a position of losing everything because of an illness or accident and they sure don't think they could ever die because they couldn't afford the care they need. Well, they could be wrong and that could turn out to be a fatal mistke! Annie
