HI! I am on Squidoo. I published two "squids" and have a third one that I am not through with. I don't know how to make money from there so I guess I will let you know if anything changes. LOL I almost forgot I had it until I saw another question about Squidoo the other day. I guess I need to update my squid or something.

Hi MommaJ: I just signed up this weekend, so I am pretty clueless about how to proceed. I put some information up, but it needs a lot of work. Just wondering if anyone has any good advice because surely there must be some Squidoo members on MyLot. Keep me posted about how yours is coming along.
What topics are you doing for your "squids"...I thought they were called lenses? Mine is on books, but I already have a blog on that, so it's just a test lens. If it works out, I'd like to add a lot more topics that I don't normally write about.

I am still figuring things out, but you should look at the advice below. What the last poster says is that you need at least 3 lenses to get some attention. If you let me know where to find yours, I will go and rate it for you. You can either post it here or email me, and I will check it out when I have some spare time.

OOPS they are lenses. LOL Don't ask me advice on squidoo! LOL I'm not real sure how they work yet. I didn't get any views on mine yet. They aren't high in rating though either. I think you are somehow supposed to get friends on there and get people to look at your lenses. I'm not real sure. I've seen people say that they make so much money there. Lucky them. I did mine before mother's day so mine is actually one for moms and then one on parenting. I have rss feeds to my ac stuff and then I also have an rss feed to other people's stuff on ac. I thought that would be neat. I thought the feed was a little different but I guess what it does will work, if anyone sees the lens. LOL

I have been on squidoo for over a year. I have over 100 lenses now and it keep growing each day. No matter how many how many lenses you have, there is always going to be a learning curve. There is only so much to learn and only so much time. They have numerous modules available that I have not tried them all out. They are constantly trying to improve and add things to the site.
There are a couple of links I would suggest anyone new to squidoo
http://www.squidoo.com/theanswerdeck/hq
http://www.squidu.com/forum/
One is the answer deck and the other is the forum. The answerdeck has many of the questions you may be asking and among other things.
As for money, there is a couple months lag between the time you start and the time you get paid. Say your lenses rank well this month, then you would get paid in October. There is no guaranty though. A lot of times the first month, you get nothing because in the course of the month, your lenses don't typically rank well. If you are lucky, you will get into tier three.
Your lenses have to land in tier 1, 2, or 3. I have actually had lenses in all three tiers. Getting into tier 2 is not so hard though, but it does take work to get lenses to land in one sometimes.
Check out these to find out information about payments:

Thanks so much for all your helpful advice. I have dropped the ball on this, but reading your post has encouraged me to go back and work on my lens some more. I have a lot of ideas, but less time. You are a great ambassador for Squidoo.

Yes I am a giant squid and I am currently working my way to making it in their giant 100 club which is the next step after becoming a giant squid. I have been a giant squid since January 2009 and became a citizen squid a month or two after that.

Just take your time. Don't force it. More importantly, have fun.
Squidoo was the very first site that I had started with. In fact, I learned about other sites through them. I constantly trying to improving my lenses and I am constantly trying to improve things and just experimenting at times.
In fact, if you write on other sites, you can add links to your articles on squidoo. Many of the major article writing sites are allowed so you can have more than 9 outgoing links to those sites.
The downside of squidoo is there is no special keys in the boxes, but there are plenty of lenses within squidoo that can teach you html and css. I am usually a message away if you need help in that department.

I have not tried there. I am responding so that you will have at least your initial response and kick the discussion back up for someone else to see. There are about five other discussions that are about earning by writing, and you may learn something there.I think they all mention squidoo.

I have just started and was about to start a similar discussion! I hope this discussion brings in a lot of tips, and I can see it already has. As for my advice, I would just recommend to sending your Squidoo link to just some of your very close friends on myLot. I did that and she was so impressed and found my Squidoo lens useful that she recommended it to a friend! I also made a banner and put it in my profile. We could read each others lens if you'd like.

I really wish I could help you out. I've only done a few lenses myself and only my most recent has a really good rating. I'm pretty stoked about that.

I know that Squidoo has links to some videos on You Tube that go through the process of how to use your lens in order to earn money. I checked some of them out and the information is very useful. Still haven't gotten around to putting up a lens myself...
I also recommend going to 'The Squidoo Answer Deck', which can be found at the bottom of the main page under the help heading. It has the answers to a lot of questions and concerns someone new to Squidoo might have.
Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the information about YouTube. I have dropped the ball with my work on Squidoo, but I am encouraged by what information has been posted on this discussion and plan to pick it up again. I need a new writing outlet, and this may be the answer.

I've seen a couple posts where people have commented about squidoo but I haven't looked into it. I did look into Bukisa though and I am thinking of signing up there.
