I do not actually feel nervous but I really act differently because I'm pretty conscious every time the dentist does her thing on my mouth. lol

It depends on what I am going in for. If it is a regular check up, I am okay.
I was referred to a oncologist twice, though, and both of those times, I was nervous, especially after seeing all the chemo patients. I got scared then.

hi lady hatley here. I get really nervous before doctor's
appointments usually because I have put off going until I
have a serious problem so I usually get some fairly bad
news, a nd have to take a lot of meds or else be seen by
a specialist, or I need surgery.

Can I ask why you put off going? Is it that you are scared or financial issues? I only ask because of the adage: an ounce of prevention is often times worth more than the cure.

I do get nervous. Last Wednesday I had a doctor's appointment, an eye specialist. I just took glasses this year, and i'm supposed to meet this doctor every 6 months. So early in the morning i went to see her, the hospital was FULL. made more nervous to be honest. they check up my eyes, and inserted like 2 different eye drops in my eyes, told me to keep my eyes shut till i was asked to see the doctor. Then walking into the bright room, the doctor told me to sit in front of this machine, where she picked this glass and put it ON TOP of my eyes to see thru the machine. Awesome.. did i mention i'm quite phobic with anything going near my eyes. yeah having a glass paste on top of my eye was lovely. hahaha. now i have another meeting like that a few more months before i get to experience that again. God i don't like doctors, but i had dreamed a few times that i married a doctor. nooooooooooo... hahah.

I do not get nervous about doctor or dentist or eye doctor appointments. I guess I just look at it as doing something positive for myself. I like my doctors, also. I do avoid making appointments however and going on them. I always feel too busy to take that kind of time out.

I get nervous about any kind of doctor or dentist appointments. I just don't like having to go and 9 times out of 10 I end up having to get some kind of shot. I just prefer to wait till I absolutely have to go and then I'm usually too sick to care.

I can not stand the dentist...it's not the needles...it's them messing in my mouth.
I'm so paranoid I am going to gag and end up throwing up on them. I just can't stand it....and no, it's never happened. Although when they were fitting me for my upper plate I gagged and gagged and gagged, but the stuff had to stay in there to mold right.
Once home I was still gagging so a trip back to shave off some from the back of the plate.
I have 4 teeth now that severely need to be pulled and I need a full plate on the bottom. Fear is stopping me, but not as much as the fact that I just don't have the money to pay for the work.

I once had a tooth that was partially root canaled and medicated, but I never crowned it. The tooth got reinfected, and my entire cheek blew up. At that point, I called my dentist and they prescribed me antibiotics right away, and I saw them on the following Monday.
They ended up pulling the tooth, and bridging it. I paid $1800 out of my pocket and my insurance is fighting me on their $1000, and it is an awful mess.
I know its scarey, but you have to go. Teeth infections could lead to the brain or even the heart.

it is scary to think of how fast mouth infection can go to your heart
and it's worse for me because I have mitro valve prolapse, which means before they can even do any work in my mouth I have to be on anti-biotics for a few days first.

I am sure that was very scary. I have actually never had more than a small cavity but I actually have had full blown panic attacks at the dentist. I have to take an anti anxiety pill when I go. That thing works amazingly though. I took one last time I went and I was so relaxed, he could have hit me in the face with a board and I would have been fine with it. Maybe you could ask your regular doctor if he could subscribe something like that to you.

No not really, because I know the doctor is going to help me get better and take care of what ever thing I am there to see him about. The only way I would be nervous is if I were there for a test result for something terrible, then I would probably be really nervous. I go to the doctor a lot, I don't take chancs with my health.

Yes I get nervous when I go to the doctors. I have an awesome Doctor, but a huge family history of everything. So I am always ready for him to find something wrong. Plus I do not like the overall exam process either. I do for my kids though. I am not nervous about goiong to the dentist though. My gums are usually a little soar for a day but after that my teeth feel a lot better.
