What kind of writing do you most like to do?

I have loved to write, ever since I learned how. For me, it is almost like an "itch" that just has to be scratched. I write many things: poetry, articles, a blog, short stories, and once, even a novel. I love to write letters, notes, and keep a journal. It is hard to choose, but I think my favorite is blogging, since I can incoporate all of that in one place. What kind of writing do you do? Which genre or type do you like best? Thank you for your input... Karen

Hi Karen! I cannot call myself a 'writer' like you. You are master of many arts poetry, articles, short stories and novel etc. I love to write poetry or a travel diary. A travel dairy gives me a lot of satisfaction and whenever I attempt short-stories, I base them on my real life experience. However, I do not get much spare time to fulfill my hobby, as much as I would have liked to have. Have a nice day! Deepak

Hello my friend. I just plain love to write and experiment, so that explains why I do many different styles, I think. I have seen some of your excellent poetry on Mim's Ning site. It is a satisfying challenge to say much with just a few rhythmic lines, yes? And like you, I love keeping travel diaries and writing short stories. I hope that in the future you will have more free time to pursue this hobby. Karen

I also write a bit of everything. I keep a journal, and when inspiration strikes, I write poetry. I do not blog, however, but I've written quite a few short stories. I would love to write a novel, and I've started several. But, unfortunately I cannot manage to finish one. I haven't quite figured my strategy out just yet. As for favorite genres, I'll read just about anything as long as it is interesting. I like to write fantasy and fiction and would love to write historical fiction though I have yet to do that. Good luck with your writing.

Hello Raineyes...what a pretty screen name. You really do love to write variety! I wrote one novel, hated it, and ripped it up. Like you, I wish to try another. Best wishes with your writing. Soon enough, your novel ideas will take full form :) Karen

Thank you very much. I've only truly just trashed one idea and thrown it right away. I have several ideas playing around in my head, and I think I'd like to find a way to combine them into one big idea. I always feel like I lack enough excitement in the plot. Not even twists and turns, you know? Hopefully when you decide to try again, it will work out successfully for you.

Thank you! I hope my next try goes much better, too. I think you may be onto something there--with combining a number of your ideas into one plot. Great way to add depth to the novel :) Karen

Hello my friend. Yes, writing here on mylot takes some skill and effort, so that means all of us are writers in a sense. I don't really know how many discussions I've started, but I love beginning one, and I most certainly enjoy partaking in the good discussions begun by others. I always enjoy your intelligent responses, so thank you! Blessing and a beautiful day to you. Karen

Hi Karen, I enjoy writing about real life experiences with positive spins on them, creative writing, writing about religion, relationship, friendships, how-to's, and pretty much anything that sparks my interests, but my I am more focused on life experiences.

Thank you for your kind words. My desire is to become established, learn the in's and out's, and to become a work at home writer, working full-time. I can't tell you how nice it is to meet so many writers with the same things in common. It is a totally different world with writers and I like it. It has a laid back feeling and you can always learn from other writers because we have different personalities. Do you work from home as freelance writer?

I love blogging and writing novels best. It's kind of...an impulse/obsession for me...bordering on an addiction because it's almost as necessary for me as breathing. I'm a newsblogger, so that's what I talk about there. And as for writing my genres tend to be; supernatural thrillers, science fiction, and fantasy. I'm going to be trying out fantasy mysteries too, sometime. And I've written a science fiction romance before.

Hi xP. What a great resume you have to your credit. Everyone is interested in the latest news. I'd love to read a sci-fi romance, and the supernatural also interests me. Best of wishes to you in your continued career as a writer Karen

Hello friend, When I was in tenth standard, I used to score very good marks in English and that was the time my teacher made me realise that my writing skills were decent enough. After that I started writing my personal diary, since I did not have a PC at home. times changed and about five years back I had a 24*7 access to the internet and I started my own blog. I write anything there.. be it my private life,my point of view on something or about friends.. There's no limit

Hi Jshekhar. How familiar these things do sound. While I still enjoy the feel of pen/pencil and paper in hand, I have to admit that the internet has made writing so much faster, so much easier. I, too, love to blog. I can make it whatever I want it to be :) Karen

Hi Haiershen. Writing is very useful, yes? And we don't have to be especially "good" at it to enjoy it or to find that it serves a purpose. Yes, I do love to write many things...some are good, some not so much lol. Thank you for responding. Karen

I love to write short stories and poetry. But then again I am like you. I. Love. To. Write. anything and everything. I don't think I have the patients to write a whole novel though. I've tried writing longer stories and end up getting off the main plot, or loosing the ending all together.

Hello to you. I do fully understand that passion. It resembles one's need for food or for air to breathe...a strong drive or necessity. There is a fine art to writing the short story, yes? I wish you well in all your writing endeavors. Karen

I can fully understand the comparison to an "itch that just needs to be scratched." I've felt that way forever - about writing. It's like you have all these thoughts tumbling around in your head, and you need to get them on paper (on screen). Many times, I don't care if they are read or not...they just have to be said/written/expressed...they have to be out there in the world. I used to enjoy writing letters (in the pre-historic days)... maybe that's one of the reasons 'You've got Mail' is one of my all-time favorite movies. As a result, I also tend to like people based on how well they write...weird measure? Maybe. But it's unconsciously present in my attitude. I enjoy writing when there are no rules. Maybe that is because I am a free bird at heart. As soon as rules are imposed, I feel a sense of restraint and the words just don't flow anymore. Is that just psychological? Who knows. By the way, thank you for starting this discussion...it's given me an excuse to do one of the things I enjoy the most...write :)

I like how you worded that "common bonds." Good choice of words. I think that is great that you are a freelance writer, editor, and artist - very impressive. I am presently looking for employment until I become established. Everything takes time and I am new at this, just recently pursuing writing.

Thank you, Redrose. It was the same for me when getting established. I think most writers keep a "day job" to support themselves in the beginning stages of their career. I wish you all the best! Karen

I write a bit of everything. Writing is my release. When I'm stressed about something I just start writing and let my pen go with my mind. I've written various things over the years. I'm still waiting for the inspiration for "my" book. Until then I'm just reading, learning and writing everything that comes to mind.

Hello Hatley. What a wonderful endeavor. I love the title, as well. I began journaling when I was 12, and I've loved being able to look back upon life and know where the time went and how I came to be who I am now. And yes, the economy has pressed down so hard on so many of us. Writing is my sanity saver, too. My very best wishes with your book and all of your other writings. Karen

I used to love writing screenplays when I was still at school. However as I got older and started to work more I found less time to be able to write properly. I really want to write a novel though, that would be the ultimate test for me.
