Would you rather read a 100 page philosophy or a 500 page simple read?

It depends on how good the writing is. Something isn't necessarily an easy read just because it is short. I have read some awful things that felt a lot longer than they actually were and I have also read some really amazing things that just breezed by even though they were long.
