Can I get in trouble for typing a magazine article up into my blog?

I want to put some articles I have read onto my blog and give credit to the writer but I don't know if I can get in trouble. It would be word for word and even have the writers name and where the article came from so it should be fine, no?

You need to contact the magazine first and find out about copyrights. You also need to contact the writer of the article. It is infringement of copyright laws to retype it into your blog even if you give credit, from my undestanding It really also depends on if you are making money from the blog or not. If you are making money, you cannot do it at all without contacting them.

Good point, macdingolinger. I meant to include the fact that if you can gain permission from the publisher, then it's legal, but you have to state that you have permission, and full credit has to be included. If it's a blog post or article by an individual, and a publisher isn't involved, permission follows the same rules.
