When my family and I were in New York, USA..we were taking a cab from
the airport to the hotel. The cab driver asked us where are we from?
So, I answered Malaysia. He got no clues where Malaysia is. Then I said,
next to Singapore..ahah..yes he heard of Singapore. Malaysia are relatively
much larger than Singapore by the size of the land. Singapore are more well
known because they have built an image as the commercial hub of Asia.
So, I think as a Malaysian, I must promote my country in the eyes of
the world! Malaysia has the 3rd highest tower in the world, it's called
Petronas Twin Tower. It appeared on the movie starring Sean Connery
& Catherine Zeta-Jones called EntrapmentDo share with us whether have you heard of Malaysia, if 'YES', what is
the first thing that comes into your mind? If 'No', let me share about
Malaysia to you. Tks and happy myLotting!

Dear James,
You may not like what I am going to say, but I have got a very bad picture of Malaysia. I have heard that they are very harsh to Hindus and demolish Temples et al. And also, that Islamic laws are forced on all people inspite of huge Non-islamic population.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Hi,
It sad to hear all these bad news. They planned to relocate these Hindus Temples. The Islamic Laws are meant for Muslims only and is only in Kelantan ( controlled by PAS) that is enforced. Other states follow Civilian Law. Even states like Penang and Selangor controlled by Opposition, Civilian Law is enforced. Make a point to come Malaysia to see for yourself. Everyone lives in harmony.

You have cleared a bit of cloud hanging on the image of Malaysia in my mind. I am happy to hear what you have said. But I hope what you have said is indeed true. Because the name "Malaysia" itself is so alluring.

In Malaysia, we have 3 major races living in harmony. Naturally there may be some tensions or disagreements among the races once in awhile. Even between husbands and wives who are very very close, they do quarrel once in awhile, distorying household things. Are we labelling them terrorisrs? No, No. Anyway, think you for sharing.

I went to Malaysia in 1994 on my way around the world. I arrived there by ferry from Sumatra and then I went by taxi to the border with Singapore. I was ill when I arrived for one week. Then when I was better I looked around Penang. I saw a lovely looking very old temple. I got a ferry to Butterworth and caught a train to Kuala Lumpur, the capital city. I saw monkeys at the gate of the botanical gardens. Lastly I went by train and bus to Mersing. It was there in the dark evening time that I fell down a drain and hurt my leg. I would love to visit that lovely country again in the future.

Dear maximax8,
Oh dear, so sorry that you hurt your leg....I am very proud
of you for being an adventurous traveller that have visited
almost every countries in the world. I truly hope someday I
can meet you, perhaps join you for one of the interesting
trip to a foreign and exciting place full of cultures, food,
art, beautiful architectures, sceneries and historical sites!
Btw, you go to Mersing ~ is it you want to visit Pulau Tioman?
(an island near to Mersing)
Oh yes, those monkeys will be there greetings every tourist
that came to the Botanical Garden in Penang!
Beware though, I heard stories that they even took ladies
handbags away....
Malaysia have change a lot since 1994, you should visit
some of the wonderful islands for snorkelling eg. Pulau
Langkawi, Pulau Redang, Pulau Pangkor and to see Petronas
Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. And our new Kuala Lumpur
International Airport is very beautiful (state-of-the-art
architecture and designs). Perhaps a visit to Melaka (the
Historical City..my hometown too!)
All the best and do keep in touch!

Hi... Yes I've heard of Malaysia and have been there already four times particularly KL and Kuching coz my husband is working there. My recent trip there was last April-May and I was with my 2 sons. We went to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and Genting Theme Park where my 2 sons have greatly enjoyed. Also we went to other tourist attractions in KL like P. Twin Towers, The KL tower, Batu Caves, Istana, Merdeka, etc. After 4-5 days in KL we proceeded to Kuching Sarawak, also beautiful place in Malaysia.
Thanks for the Malaysian mylotters inputs. I wish I could go to other places of Malaysia that I have not seen yet.

Hi joyce,
Next time try to go to ClubMed in Cherating, Pahang,Taman Negara ,Penang and the various Islands I described earlier. Malaysia is absolutely a good place to visit.Don't live home without visiting those places. Since your husband is working in Kuching you may proceed to Niah Caves where you can see the bird nests been harvested by the natives. It is one of its kind experience. Sarawak also has the largest endangered flowers in the world. It is called Rafflesia ,a parasitic plant named after Sir Thomas Raffles. Thank you for your input.

Of course I know Malaysia. My closed friend in the UK is from Malaysia. She told me her country is very beautiful. It’s a mixed country. Chinese, India and other ethnic descent live there. I also know the country is hot and multicultural. I wish I can visit the country in autumn or in winter, so I don’t have to suffer the hot and wet weather.

I agree with you, Malaysia is a very beautiful country. Besides, it is multiracial, multicultural and multireligious country. It is make-up of Malays, the majority race, followed by the Chinese, then the Indians and the indigenous races.

Dear James,
Thank you for a wonderful topic about Malaysia.
If gives a sneak preview for everyone a chance
to see Malaysia from a Malaysian perspective,
not from the commercial point of views..great job :)
It also give us ~ the Malaysian myLotters to share the
culture , the festivals, the tourist attractions and more...
to other myLotters here from all over the world!
I guess, I will start off with the Hotels in Malaysia ~
There are many International 5 Stars Hotels here that provide
superb stay and variey spread of Asian and International buffet!
The Marriots KL, The Mandarin Oriental KLCC (it is situated next
to the Twins Towers, fantastic location to go around shopping,
photographing, public transportation (LRT) in just inside the
KLCC Suria Mall.) Most Hotels provide free shuttle bus to the
shopping malls...
Palace of the Golden Horses where Queen Elizabeth stayed during
the CommonWealth Game held in Malaysia in 1998...it is just like
a palace..Nearby hotel will be Mines Beach Resort under the same
group...they have 'water taxi' (fast boat) to bring you from the
the first hotel to the other hotel. There are also 'water taxi'
service provided inside the Mines Shopping Centre there, not sure
the service still on...
Tks and hope it did gives some views of the hotels in Kuala Lumpur!

Dear Iriene,
Yes, I distinctly remembered in 1998 during the Commonwealth Games my family and I stayed at Palace of the Golden Horses, courtesy of Citibank when my son was only 2 years young. We met the young and handsome Prince Edward in person as HRH passed by us. Ho, what memories to cherish! Iriene, you have such a good write-up on hotels in Kuala Lumpur. I give you best response.
