Do you think these diet groups do any good?

If one can lose the weight by themselves, by exercising and eating right, I say forget those groups! But a lot of people can't. And if one is struggling or has no motivation, than those groups and memberships can literally be a lifesaver. I think these places do help. I just wish they wouldn't charge as much. A lot of people would use these groups if they could afford it. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to be able to do it by themselves.

I think it is better just to do diet and exercise than to use money to lose weight. It would be harder doing it on your own but I can't help but think those places rip you off.

I actually love to eat.I am not into dieting.I find dieting boring.it constricts you from enjoying food.I still believe that you lose weight with proper exercise.

i think they only work for people that don't have a lot of will power when it comes to food,if the groups work for some people, great,i don't have anything against them

First, let me say that people aren't fat just because they lack "will power". There are a lot of biological factors that can make losing weight very hard to impossible for a lot of people. That said, they have also proven that support is a HUGE factor in continuing an exercise routine and starting and maintaining healthy habits. In other words, if you have a friend or two to partner up with to lose weight- to keep eachother honest and motivate to exercise, then you'd have no need for a diet group. But some people really need and benefit from joining such groups. It just depends on your situation.

Sometimes these groups such as weight watchers can be good as you will have people around you to monitor, encourage and support you. I know people that use these froups as they just dont have the will power to do it alone. I would be careful in which particular group you choose though. The diet has to be a change in lifestyle and not just an unhealthy fad like the atkins diet. A diet that controls calorie intake whilst still having all the relevant food groups is the best type to go for. But exercise should be a part of ebery persons routine and not just someone trying to loose weight. So exercise is a definate yes. Personally I would not join a group as I would be motivated enough to do it by myself. There are so many out there that are very unhealthy and just fads.Hope this helps.

I've lost 58 pounds so far, on a wonderful group's site. It's free, and totally flexible, so you make it work as you want it to work. The support and encouragement from members is incredible! You might want to try SparkPeople some time.
