air conditioning or brave the heat?

It has finally gotten hot here where I live! I went to Arby's to grab lunch the other day on my lunch break from work. The cashier asked me if it was still nice outside. I told her that I just dash from one air conditioned place to the next & don't really notice. I said my office, car & home all have air conditioning. She said she doesn't like air & would rather have the windows open. Do you prefer air conditioning or do you like the heat? I can survive if I have to, but I definately like the central air in my house!

The city where I live is not hot but when I travel with my mother, we have to brave the heat because our car has no air conditioner. What I do is open the windows and spray water on my face so the wind will cool me. I like to see it as being friendly to the environment than being too broke to fix the air conditioner.

I never thought about air conditioning being bad for the environment! I guess you do have to put a chemical of sorts in for it to work. hmmmmmmmmm!

I prefer the a/c rather than the heat from the window. I do also can survive without the a/c but life will be much easier if your house is centralized.

Air conditioning? I can take it or leave it. Hubby and I live in the basement, so no matter how hot it is on the surface, it's cold down here. I like air conditioning when I'm in a vehicle, as long as it's not too high. The only time I don't like air conditioning in a building is when it's turned up to freezing. No fair to go from stiffling to freezing. It's a shock to my system. I come from a frugal family, so we've always just opened windows. Moving into the basement is a real blessing in the Summertime. also, the patio tables at Second Cup are all in the shade, so people flock there in the Summer so they can sit outside without melting. The only problem with that is if it's slightly cool outside, you're going to need a jacket on the patio.

I will open the windows if it is not too hot outside and there is enough of a breeze to blow through the place to cool things or keep them cooled down. Otherwise, if it gets humid out, the air conditioning goes on and will stay on for as long as it needs be. My place does tend to stay pretty cool, which I am happy about, but when it starts to feel hot, the air conditioning does go on.

it's pretty hot here too. I don't have air conditioning. I don't have air in my car either. I can take a lot of heat...even when it is uncomfortable. If I am in an air conditioned place too long....then there is the shock of entering the heat when you leave. I think it is better to just let your body adjust to it. But that is just me. for some people, the heat is really unhealthy.

I would prefer air conditioning as I cannot stand the heat, it stresses me out and makes me tired. The heat makes me drink a lot of water and I am still thirsty. However, it is always good to get used to the heat as you don't know when you will be in a situation with no air conditioning at all.

Air Conditioning! i cannot live without it! course i live in the southwest corner of Arizona..and our average summer temp is probably 105F. just a week or so ago we were averaging 112F! with at least 1 day of 116!! so a/c all the way..unfortunately i dont have a/c in the car..well not working at least and that really really s*cks! its just horrible to spend the time (and the money) to put on your makeup, put on clothes that can be seen in public (LOL!) and step out the front door make it to the carport and into the car..and then immediately start sweating off the makeup and staining the armpits of your shirts! i hate summer.

well, we are in canada and our summer gets quite hot and pretty intense as well, but since we dont have central air, i just find i get cold. at work, by the time i am done working, i am literally freezing! i don't like the heat and hummidity (we have a portable a/c that cools a couple of rooms in our house) but i dont like how cool people set their central a/c either.

I can deal with the heat up to 90 degrees. It's the humidity that drives me to seek out a/c. We had a heat wave here last 3 days but only needed the air on during the day. I would shut it off around 9pm and turn it back on about the same time next morning. Still humid outside this am but not as hot as it was. I have the a/c on in my car more often than in the house only cause it's easier on the gas to have the windows up while I'm working since it's less drag on the car. Besides, black car and hot sun isn't a healthy mix. lol

I'm not too keen on too much heat although I guess I have to put up with it as I don't have anything in the form of air conditioning where I live. It's funny, I don't even have one of those electric fans and I really need to invest in something like that I think. Anyway, living in the UK there isn't too much heat, not the kind of heat you are referring to. We have a balance of rain as well as sunshine, I like this balance I think. Andrew

The place where I live is hot everyday. Instead, my country is hot throughout the whole year. I actually can stand for the heat. We have air conditioner on every night when we sleep. As for day time, we only on the fan. May I just ask where are you from? How is your weather there? Is it now the summer season or it is hot everyday throughout the year?

I am in Michigan in the United States. It is summer here now & has been hot for the last few days. Before then the temperature had been pretty mild. I've heard that turning your air off & on costs more than keeping it on all the time. But I guess it isn't quite as hot at night for the air conditioner to have to work & cool off the house again.

thank you for your reply again. So meaning that your weather there is changing to hot summer! We need air conditioner only at night time because I find that the weather is hotter at night, especially we have to close all the windows at night. This is to prevent mosquito come into our house. But during day time, we open the windows and doors so it is windy actually.

I grew up in a house with no air conditioning at all. We had ceiling fans and that was it. However, I finally got a place with central A/C about the time I was 20 and never have looked back. Even my mom has A/C now. I'm totally spoiled by the A/C at home, work, stores, etc., but I'm not spoiled by it in the car. Sadly, my little '92 Taurus is just too old to have the major A/C repairs it needs...so, while she still runs for me, I roll down the windows, let the breeze go through my hair, and sweat out the car ride knowing that soon I'll be in A/C heaven again. ;)

I live here in the tropics, so I'd go anytime with air conditioning. Sure I can stand the heat, but that's not the point. I want comfort, and I will pay for comfort.

we have barely used our air conditioning this summer because we simply cannot afford to but now with the humidity and the excessive heat we use it mostly at night so we can sleep. i turned it off this morning as it cooled down a bit over night and it is slowly getting hot again so i will keep my eye on the temperature in here and when it gets to a certain point i will put it on again especially since we are having company over this afternoon. one of my guest has an infant so i do not want it to be too hot. i would have it on more if we could afford it but i am also very conscious of the environment so i would not use it excessively or when it is just not necessary like some people do. i think they keep it way too cold in some of the stores i shop in and if they just turned up the temp a few degrees it would save so much energy.

I am not fond of air conditioning. Where we live we don't need it, we just open the windows and doors. We live in a small mountaintop town in PA and there is always a breeze going. If the breeze isn't strong enough, or a hot flash hits me, we use fans, they use less electricity and the air is much more confortable. Air conditioners are loud and make it too cool in the house. After being in an air conditioned place, then stepping outside, it's like walking into a brick wall of heat.

It is starting to get hot here now to, I love being able to keep the windows open for all the fresh air, and i try to limit using the air conditioner as much as i can but i do turn it on if it gets to be in the 90's or above, or if the humidity gets real high.

it is very hot in my place now.people here call the end of summer "autumn tiger".i am considering buying an air conditioner, though i don't like the air from it .i feel the air is humid and not fresh.i used to open the windows to keep the heat.it is very lucky that i am on summer vacation when it is the hottest.so i can stay at home all days .

The air conditioning is on overnight, while I'm sleeping, and when it gets especially hot during the day. It's usually a matter of turning it off when I don't really need it. Like, right now.... My air conditioning is off, and it's very warm, but I will just endure it.

In fact, people living under the long-term air conditioning will affect the health,I spent most of the time fans, although fans, let me feel hot,but I still like to use the fan because the fan on the body better,at least let the window open with ventilation.
