When voting for a public servant, most of the time it comes down to choosing who is the lesser evil. I think there are new politician who ran for office with the intention of doing good. However when they are amidst a sea of corrupt politician they tend to go with the flow and be corrupt themselves. Sad as it may seem, new politicians would have to play dirty so that they may implement the changes that they want. A good example is Fr. Ed of Pampanga. As far as I know, he is honest. However his projects are not implemented because there are some who oppose it. So the question is, is it necessary to stoop the level of corrupt official to do go in Politiics? What are your thoughts?

The shear nature of politics lend itself to these problems. No mater what your position on anything there will always be someone else against it. So in order to get anything done you must play the game to garner the votes.
One of the most disgusting things about politics is that if you are honest in everything you say and do you will absolutely loose. If the opposition doesn't see to it then the press will. We saw recently where the president said in a news conference just what he thought and did that ever get him distracted. They do not dare answer a question straight on because it will always come back to haunt them.
As for corruption, well that will always be when people find themselves in position of power. If you can do someone a favor and be compensated for it then some will do just that.
The trick is for us to know the difference.

Great point. Unfortunately on most cases, Politics and honesty don't mix. I do hate when public officials do not give a straight answer. They give excuses and use the term "Don't sensationalize it". We do they have to play the game to do good. Thanks for the response

There will never be a public servant who will be completely honest.
We live in a world of imperfections. Humans are not perfect. Even the first persons who live on earth (based from the bible, adam and eve are not honest ).
Even priests, religious leaders succumb to the temptation to the power they posses.
Though possible for the early time of a public servant in his office, he will later and eventually fall to temptations of money and power.
Take an instance, Marcos was having a good governance in his early years as president, but what happened, the power he has corrupted him.
This thing will always happen.
The honesty we want to find can not happen with the presence of a great power.
Just like the movie Lord of the rings, the ring bearer eventually fell to the power of the ring.
So you are right that when election comes, choose the lesser evil. Because lesser evil is easier to change than the other way around.

Every politician needs certain amount of money to keep his/her show running..the money sure comes but with a tag and that is what we refer to in common parlance as corruption...so in effect one could be cleaner to extent the system allows him/her to be and the power of resistence he/she possesses...otherwise as they say absolute power corrupts absolutely.

yes, it is possible it really depend on the personality of the politician is he is easily influences or have his own decency not to be pressure by bribery, nepotism and corruption. A good servant must be God fearing, honest, responsible and committed to his plans to prioritize the need of his community aside from his own private agenda.
