The edecational system of China takes after the Soviet Union.
The primary school : Grade 1 to 6, six years
The junior high school: Grade 7 to 9, three years
[The Senior High School Entrance Examinations]
The senior high school: Grade 10 to 12, three years
[The College High School Entrance Examinations]
From a kindergarten kid to a high schoolboy, their first term of a year begins on September 1st and ended days before the Spring Festival and the second term starts a couple days before or after the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the Sprind Festival, or rather the 15th day of the 1st lunar month) and came to an end at the end of June or so.
The winter vacation contains the whole Spring Festival, lasting about 20 days. As for the summer vacation, it lasts around two months, including the whole July and August.
That is just the general situation. If you are getting to junior 3 or senior 3, the school is certain to arrange lessons on August and in the winter vacation and you have to attend them under the pressure of the senior high school/college entrance examinations.
