For me, the most important thing for selecting a job is how well the pay is. Isn't that the primary reason why we are all working? To earn money to be able to support our family. The higher the income, the better future we can provide for our family.
I am not saying though that even if the job is paying huge amount of money, that you will be happy. I am in a job which I actually do not like but I am into it because it pays more. Yes, it pays more but I am not happy most of the time. That is why I admire people who can pursue their dream jobs and be happy by doing so despite the small income. I cannot afford to do that as I have to support my family and my son.

Flexibility and variety would be important to me as well as the nature of the work, conditions in the workplace and colleagues. It would need to pay enough that I wouldn't be better off staying at home, close enough that I wouldn't spend hours commuting (or carry an accomodation allowance so I could stay over)and the position would need to be secure (in as much as anyone's job is these days).

well you just said all the options... I wanted one most important thing out of all these... because most of us are not gonna get everything we want in one job ;)

Mmmm, yeah I know, but I had to try for them all didnt I? I guess I wouldn't take a job unless it was more financially beneficial than staying at home and then it would be the colleagues - tho' unfortunately, you dont usually know about the colleagues until you've been there a while. At the moment, I do have most of those things... I'm not a great deal better off than I would be if I were unemployed but its a self-dependency/sanity thing for me and the work is hard and dirty but thats ok because I feel like I've done something worthwhile even tho'others may look down on it.
