? for those w/ sensitive Pierced Ears

My youngest daughter loves her earrings but I've noticed that they look a lil crusty/dry around the hole & a smidge red when I change them. I thought ok maybe that pair of earrings the backing was too tight or something. I've switched her to several different pairs with no different luck w/ the sensitive posts. I did have a pair of gold earings for her but she pulled them out and one got stepped on *sigh* So I' going to try some with silver posts. It doesn't seem to bother her exactly that I know of but sometimes she asks to get them out of her ears. I've got several holes of my own but mine don't react like hers do, once in a while but not with every pair. Any other ideas?

sounds like she has nickel allergy like i do. gold, silver or stainless steel is all i can wear. could also be she's figitting/itching them. you might want to try those wire hung ones,so if it's getting irritated, you can clean them easily, and not have the stud obscure it.

That's a very good idea about the wire hung kind.

they are supposed to be nickel free or so I thought? Do you mean french hooks? She's nearly 4, I think her lobes would be too small for those. Or do you mean some small hoops?

you have to be really careful with the studs. i bought some that were supposed to be,but i could tell by my reaction, they couldn't have been. um..either would probably work, just something that allows more air to the piercing.

Are the earrings hypoallergenic? Is that how you spell it? But I know what you're talking about. My mom had the same problem. My sister and I never had problems with our pierced ears. When my mom was about 35 she decided to get her ears pierced again (she first had them pierced when she was a teen but later they grew back in). But they were always red, bleeding, or extremely sore. After a couple of years she had to let them grow back. They were just too painful for her to deal with.

It sounds like your daughter has an allergy so it would be wise to clean earrings before she wears them. She should only wear earrings made from good quality gold or silver. I have sensitive ears and therefore only wear gold earrings. Good luck.

My ears get like that when I wear posts, so I don't wear them often. I did buy a pair last year that were hypoallergenic and they don't do it when I wear those. But I usually wear wires and they don't bother my ears--maybe because more air can get in there and keep them healthy? Good luck with your daughter's ears!

She may be allergic to fake metal. I am, so if i don't clean my earrings and ears at least once a day they begin to get dry and crusty and start to turn green. I usually use peroxide to clean with. I still buy fake jewelry though because as long as i take care of my ears they seem to be fine.

I will add that I agree it's probably a nickel allergy. Now that can be dealt with for some people. My cousin has a nickel allergy, and she coats her fake posts with clear nail polish. When she buys the earrings, she coats the posts and the back part that touches the ear. If this is a true nickel allergy, she will also have a reaction to the button on a pair of jeans. The back part of the rivet on the inside of the jeans contains nickel, and if that metal touches skin instead of underwear, she will get a rash there too.

Try getting nickel free earrings. I get that when i wear ANYTHING that has a smidge of nickel in. My ears would also swell up and the posts would be too short so the earrings would be very tight and very painful. I had the sensitive post earrings - they worked fine for awhile however the gold plating wore off on them and the nickel started the leech through. I got tired of my ears hurting so i ended up going to the jewelry store and purchasing a set of solid white gold sleeper hoops for my ears. My ears havent swelled up or gotten icky and crusty in a year since i got them. For 2 pairs was about 70 dollars. I dont have to worry about the backs getting lost. I've taken them out about once a week in the year i had them - to clean the earrings. I've changed them a couple times for weddings or grads and put them back in right away after the event is done.

Good day, 3SnuggleBunnies! Well, I have sensitive ear piercing before but now, its okay. I just wear gold earring when the hole was not yet healed then, I put baby oil in it then playing it by pushing then pulling the earring to make the ear adapt with it. The crusty thing around the hole comes from it when it got infected so make sure that the earring must be clean. If the pierced ear is sensitive to nickel, do not wear such kind of piercing, just wear gold or silver. Have a nice day!
