I put out the frozen chicken in the sink yesterday to thaw it so I could oreserve it and get ready for dinner, I let it out for couple hours then I went out to the beach.. I forgot completely... by the time I went home, the chicken smelt so bad... it was yuck... I felt so bad that I Was being careless and wasted a piece of chicken!!!
Do you sometimes forget you are having the meat thaw and it become rotten meat?
Do you put it out to the fridge or actually in the room temperature to thaw?
I am right now thawing another couple drumsticks and thinking about going to the beach, so I am going to put it to the fridge just in case I forget again..

Hi there, I usually thaw my frozen stuff in the fridge and left it overnight. Except for frozen prawns, I thaw it in cold water an hour or two before cooking. IMO, your chicken wasn't fresh in the first place, it does not rot so easily within a few hours... at least, not the chicken I bought from the fresh market here in Paris :)

Well depending on the room temperature while the OP was gone and for how long he was gone... I mean, if it was left to sit in a hot environment for a few hours.. yeah, it's going to rot. Once most raw meats hit a certain temperature, bacteria begin to form and grow.

I actually did that last week, got it out put it in cold water to thaw it out. Had to go do something forgetting about the chicken and came home and it was no good. I was so mad at myself as it is a waste of food which equals money. I guess sometimes things like that just happens sometimes. Forget something when other things are on your mind.

Hello mermaidivy,
You make me imagining the situation and the bad smell! In my case it is totally different. I seldom forget the smelly stuff in the sink but I always forget to take out the stuff from the fridge. Whenever I feel like cooking, then only I realize that I have yet to take out the chicken, the beef or the fish that I need to cook. Because of that, I always take longer time to prepare food at home. Once done, my husband always asks me this - how come it takes you more than an hour to cook three simple dishes? *laughs*

hi mermaid I did something just about as bad one day. I got my meat thawed out okay, seasoned and all ready so put in oven. Came back two hours later to get out my meat and have some dinner,oh my gosh,. the oven is c old I forgot, I really did to turn it on, oh the temp was set but I just didnt turn on the gas. It smelled okay so went ahead a nd roasted it a nd meanwhile nuked a tv dinner in the microwave. I was so intent on mylotting while waiting for the roast I forgot the important step turn on the gas. duh.it makes you feel so stupid. so I had it for my lonely supper. I left leftovers in the fridge for my son who wo rked late that day.
