My children's school will be closed for a week from tomorrow until 19/Aug. because of... what else - H1N1 (Swine Flu)!! We have 4 confirmed cases before the Ministry of Health decided to close the school !!..
Most parents are relieved bcoz we've been trying to get them to close the school since we found out about the 1st.case.. but some parents are upset becoz of some trial exams (this week) will have to be postponed - especially the parents of students in Primary-6, because the Finals will be on early September, and they are worried this school-closure will affect their children's performance..
(*Final Exam for Primary-6, is one of the major exams in our education system - before entering Middle School..)
although i understand their feelings - i think i am more relieved that they've decided to close the school, rather than risk having my children exposed to the virus at school..
what do you think?.. what would be your reactions?

I don't have kids yet but if I did I think I would ultimately be more concerned about their health than their grades. I'm sure that whatever happens they will get every opportunity to make up the exams and all that but closing now seems like the right choice - after all, this isn't just any old stomach bug!

I have this blood disease that appears to be getting worse, and I'm kinda scared. I might have to miss a lot of school, and possibly get a tutor and be home schooled. Plus I'm afraid that I won't be able to do anything I used to do. (like sports, or any activities like that)

I think it is good the the schools closed down. It would be better if they didn't but viruses can spread so easily among crowded places and with children. At long the they are healthy, it is alright.

My greater concern is to avoid getting sick, since this will affect the person physically and mentally.
The problem with the current situation is the attitude of the people. Before the disease started to spread out and claim lives in the country, people who should remain in quarantine did not do so. An example is the teacher who went to the UK for a holiday. After returning to the country she refused to follow the guidelines given by the government. She went to school. Not long after that the school had to be closed for a week. The staff member she hugged when she arrived back suffered several symptoms.
So far four of my kids had been affected by closures. Since Islam is the official religion of the country, we should follow what was recommended by Muhammad s.a.w. when an infectious disease breaks out. No one enters or leaves the area.
Three of my kids are facing important examination milestone this year. UPSR, PMR, and SPM. Hopefully there will be no complications.

Dear 4mymak,
I personally think that closing the school for a week
is definitely a wise decision. This can contained the disease
from spreading further. We should always put SAFETY FIRST
Life is more valuable, better be safe than sorry!
I really hope that H1N1 will be over as soon as possible, it had all
of us worried, especially parents who have young children that still
schooling and take public transportation. Children below the age 16
is within the high risk group!
Pray that God will show mercy and make H1N1 disappear from the face
of this earth...
All the best and take care :)
