What books can you recommend that are sort of like the Twilight and Harry Potter series? Something that has a good plot and has characters that draws attention without much trying.

I've been wanting to read The Artemis Fowl series for a while now, but never got the chance. I haven't read any books by Gaiman and Hoffman so I have to get to searching for some of their books. And, I haven't read Sookie Stackhouse, but I have watched the True Blood TV series. Thanks for the recommendations.

The Bartimaeus trilogy (The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye and Ptolemy's Gate) by Jonathan Stroud are some of the best books I've read in ages. The story is set in a London ruled by Magicians and follows a young boy called Nathaniel who summons a very witty and clever demon called Bartimaeus.
The story is gripping with great characters and some brilliant humour.

This trilogy seems to have a clever plot. Is Stroud making more of the trilogy or is Ptolemy's Gate the last book?

I read some books written the same way for the same age audience that I liked very much. It was a trilogy by Hilari Bell. The first book was called "Fall of a Kingdom" then "Rise of a Hero" then "Forging the Sword." I found them quite enjoyable and highly recommend them. I also very much enjoyed Trudi Canavan and LOVE her characters. But she'll be over in the adult section, even though her style is very similar to Rowling or Bell.

Thanks for the mentioned books from Hilari Bell. I really want to read The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan. There seems like a lot of mystery will be involved in this trilogy, can't wait to read it.

I read a book called The DarkAngel Trilogy several years ago. I do not know the author though. I am a huge fan of Anne Rice books. All of her books are wonderful. Tanith Lee is another author I like. She a a series called "The Blood Opera Series". Try checking out her books. Both author write about Vampires. They have other books too. Both are very good authors. I highly recommend them.

Jim Butcher has a fantasy series that's kind of along the lines of Harry Potter. I don't remember what the name of the series is, but the first book is called Furies of Calderon.
If you liked the movie Willow you might also like the trilogy of books that were written as sequels to it. They're by Chris Claremont and George Lucas and the titles are Shadow Moon, Shadow Dawn and Shadow Star. Really good stuff.
