Energy Drinks

I've been thinking about the introduction of all these "energy drinks" in the past few years. I admit it concerns me. Do we need more caffeine in the bloodstream of the populace? Are there better alternatives to boost you energy? Are they okay for an occasional need, or are they fine for daily use?
What are the ramifications, and what does it say about our society?
Do you use energy drinks? Why or why not?
At what age is it appropriate for a young person to start consuming them? (My kids are grown now, so I'd like to hear from the parents out there.)
Should there be health guidelines? -- For example about how much is too much.
Do you see caffeine as a drug or just a relatively benign substance?
I'd love to hear your opinion.

I'm not sure if it's considered a energy drink or not but I sometimes drink vitamin water. It has a good taste and some vitamins I need. When I exercise though, I only drink water. I'm not sure I trust those drinks for daily use but for a quick pick up, I think its fine.

I have never been into drinking energy drinks and probably never will be. I have heard numerous times about how unhealthy they are and how they can cause so many health risks.

How true, only if it's overdosed. 5 cans of energy drinks per day -- GOOD LUCK!! Next day, we could experience temporarily withdrawal symptoms including hand shaking, headaches, dehydration, probably diarrhea. One can would not be harmful only if we drink plenty of water.

I'm wary about energy drinks. They have far too much sugar and caffeine.

I try to stay away from energy drinks because of the health risks it poses- it's fun to have a little sip once in a while but that's about it for me. If I needed more energy, then I would try something more trusted like coffee. I think it's extremely dangerous for kids and teenagers to drink energy drinks, because they are still developing at that age, and it may stunt their growth.

Energy drinks, arent the best for you.
If you take 1 everyday, your body will become dependent on it, and when you go to quick drinking them, youll notice your slower than you were, before you even began drinking them.
I have only drunk 2 energy drinks before. One back in January because when i told my friend i had never had one, he Dared me to, so i figured one wouldnt hurt. ( and it didnt, knowing my next drink wasnt intil) JUne, where i took it because it was more of a rite of passage? See i drank Bawls, switch is popular drink video gamers have to stay up late and play. IT was a rite of passage of a gamer, to have it at least once.
Rule for me, any more than say 1 energy drink a week, is bad.

Very good questions. There are different energy drinks available ofcourse. I mean those that help improving health and energy. Among them all, the one type I have been taking is "Ensure". I like the tastes and I feel refreshed too. I do take Ensure every other day or so.

Food is one day considered the best and the next day it´s the worst. I saw last week a TV program about the health problems asociated with energy drinks. One had to do with heat attacks at early age.
On the othe hand I´ve been hearing lately that people who drink more coffee have less chances to have cancer. I remembered that because I´m a coffee drinker. But I don´t trust either of the positions.
Many years ago, butter was banned and everyone (but me) started to eat marguerine. Now they have discovered it´s terrible for the health. I did not accept it only because I didný like it.
Eggs and sugar have been accepted or rejected by doctors . I think that if you eat a well balanced diet, nothing is bad.
Have a good day

i started drinking most energy drinks around last year but I haven't in a while since it cost $2 - $3 a can for some. I don't think they do anything bad, the back of Monster products say do not consume more than 3 cans, well at a friend house we all had about 15 - 20 cans each. I was very tired the next day, and my hands shook for about 2 days
