When it gets kind of cold I am going to take all my flowers that dye off and get the seeds from them, I will save it in an envelope. And plant them the next year. I think it is a good Idea, And then you plant them in the spring in little pots untill they get bigger, I usually do this every year. Because buying flowers can be costly, I forgot get some miracle grow and use it.

I do that every year too. Saved seeds is the best way to go. The cheapest too lol, I can't believe what they charge for those same seeds in the spring! I save seed from almost everything I can, veggies (like tomatoes and such) and from all the flowers. I store them in envelopes too. One thing I do, for like melon seeds, squash, etc, is to dry them on a paper towel. Then when they're dry and I store them in the envelope, I cut them into strips. At planting time I just stick a strip in the ground and cover them up. (That's one way of getting a straight row hahaha)

I am trying to figure out a way to save my flowers they are so pretty and i don't want them to get destoyed, what do you think I can do for my flowers. Besides saving the seeds? I went to this real pretty yard once, and the man told me that he would put some burlap on his Flower bed and try to save his Plants in the winter monhs? you ever heard of anything like that?

That is a great idea.
Is there a way to do that with vegetables and fruits? We had a great garden this year and I was just wondering.

everything is good here. It has been a very busy summer. Kids went back to school yesterday so now Summer is officially over for us.
I am hoping things will slow down some for me. I really do miss being on here more than I am. It is good to talk to you too.

If you have any public gardens near you, they are another good place to get seeds from. As on your way in, but most will not mind if you take some seeds as long as you don't damage the plant. Another place that I go to get perennials, to plant in the fall, is the cemetery...don't laugh. In the caretakers dumpster you can find all sorts of plants that are thown out because they've gone by. Lilies, Mums, etc. Take them and plant the root or bulbs, and the following year you will have some nice additions to your garden.

i don't even bother with flowers i can barely keep a plant alive that has no flowers let alone a flower. if i had a dime for every plant i killed i would be rich. then a gain maybe not cause i would have to spend that money to buy more plants lol.

I live in Southern California so it's usually pretty nice here but I can't believe that the summer has gone so quickly. I don't ahve a flower garden but I do have a vegetable garden and I will be busy buying and planting winter vegetables over the next couple of weeks. I also get my gardening tools oiled and sharpened this time of year.

I use to do that also, but life changes and so did mine. Use to gather seeds from vege's I grew as well as flowers. Changes happened, kids grew up, life takes on different lights.
The thing is though I have one spot by the house yet that is growing snapdragon flowers, it started with two plants I put in there a few summers back because of the lack of flowers around here now. What I have done is in the fall as they grow to seed I pick them and throw them back to that ground in that area. This year there is like 8-10 more plants, very nice to look at when I go outside now.

I do save seeds as well however I love impatients and I haven't figured out how I can make them survive over the winter nor how to collect seeds from them. The seeds are really small and I have never managed to grow them from seeds so I usually buy them as small plants. Any ideas how I can make them survive the winter?

I never heard of anyone saving Impatients I suppose you can put them in a Brown paper bag and store them in a cool place. and plant them, next year the same way you do Gerainiums.
