Guys have you heard of remote desktop?
Remote desktop allows you to control the desktop and indeed the entire contents of a computer from a different machine via internet.
Its a very useful thing. It lets you control another persons computer from you own.Suppose your friend needs your help with something in his computer and you can't visit him right now so you can take the control of his computer via internet using remote desktop and help him out.
Thats all i know about this. But i don't know how to implement it.Which softwares to use or how to do it exactly? Can you guys help me with this. Its very urgent so please. Thanks in advance....

there are a lot of software that you can use to remote access someone's computer. i can name 3 since i'm more familiar with them.
1. Remote access that's built-in Windows OS. the problem though is that both should be using the same OS. you can use the remote access option if you're using a different OS.
2. you can register at LogMeIn's website. You have to install their program though for you to be able to do the remote access. The downside with this one is with the free version, there's no file transfer option. you have to pay for a subscription to do this (though they're offering a 30day trial)
3. TeamViewer is another good software to use. If you install it for personal use, then you're good to go with the software. the computer that you wish to access doesn't have to install the software in case he/she really needs your assistance. it'll also let you do file transfer from your PC to the other PC and vice versa.

Well one solution for widnows is TeamViewer which is best software, lighter and also portable to install.. I have never done remote control in Linux but what I found after searching is there is one rpm/software called lirc (Linux Infrared Remote Control : official site - http://www.lirc.org/ ) is useful for remote control and more you can get from
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/15315.html
Good Luck and let me know if you find better rpm so that I can R & D on that too.. :-)

For the occasional remote assistance requests, if both you and your friend use MSN, your friend can select your MSN contact from his/her contacts list and then "Ask for Remote Assistance" which will allow you to connect to his/her desktop to give assistance. It's the simplest solution for occasional use.
