My laptop was purchased from year 1998 and is still working. The only problem with it is poor performance. My desktop was purchased 1996, i upgraded the ram and hard drive recently. The problem with this computer is i cant get any video card for it and the monitor comes on when it wish. Most time when the monitor is on the settings are changing automatically (screen darkening, brightening and the screen size change).
So tell me how outdated is your computer?

Well my laptop's model is MB061 of Apple, made about 2007. I think its not yet outdated.
I will consider a laptop or desktop outdated, if I could no longer upgrade it, The replacement parts of the computer are obsolete or very difficult to find.
However, if damaged, as long as it can be fixed and replacement parts are still available in the market, then its not outdated otherwise, it is.
Another thing is that if the applications you need and use run perfectly, or almost, then its not outdated. But if newer software or programs that you might need could not run on your current machine then it can be considered outdated.

I do not think so my desktop is outdated. It is yet powerful and performance is also good. The only thing that i lack is graphics card and sound card if i get these 2 then i feel my system is updated.

Laptops and desktops I purchased in the year 2008. So still up to dated. But I have experience on desktops obsolete. That time, the motherboard can not be in the up grade again with add RAM or change the processor. So I decided to give to my friends who are still beginners. Because the cost to upgrade is too expensive, and almost the same as buying a new one.

I bought my laptop 2 years ago. Two years is not a short time for me. I used my laptop to work almost everyday during the past 2 years. Every year my laptop would get some components to replace because of their not working anymore. My laptop battery can only last for 1 hour. Now you see, my laptop is outdated.

My laptop is a brand new aluminum macbook. But, don't let that fool you. I mainly use my old old old GATEWAY computer that my family bought when I was 10. I am now 21, that makes the computer 11 years old! Luckily for us, my brother is a computer geek and can keep the thing running like new.

I used to have a McIintosh II from like the 80's haha. It was REALLY expensive when it was purchased but I sold it for a little amount of money. All it could do is type stuff and play some really old video games. I remember as a kid the ball mouse with one button confused me. I'm more of a pc fan now, I have 2 pc's from early 2000's and a 1 year old laptop. Seems like technology is changing so fast though, when you buy something it's already outdated because the next new thing is already being developed and built. My motto: If it works for what you need it for, keep it. No need to have the most expensive fancy thing if all you do is post on mylot and check emails haha.

Yeah, you can always go for used/refurbished. Pretty new stuff in good condition for like almost half the price!

My desktop is fairly new, I built it around a year ago, with a Core 2 Quad and an 8800 GT and a nice 22" 1080p widescreen monitor. Recently, just two months ago, I upgraded my computer with a GTX 280 and a new motherboard.

I bought my computer desktop ,some 4 years ago,I feel since I have made some upgrade I still find pleasure using my computer. The Ram's have been added.I had bought a branded computer, that of the Compaq and with the CRT screen only I find difficulty thus would soon switch to the LCD,I am saving money on that. The recent computer of mine doesn't have a video card but gives good optimum graphics support, the speed is also not bad.

I recently upgraded mine. My only regret is the monitor (crt). The screen size keep on changing and behaves like it is going to shut off. I am not sure if it is because it uses so much current to operate. My other regret is not having a video card. Everything else on my computer is great now though.

The voltage fluctuations may be a problem regarding the screen, the resolution variations may be the internal performance failure,I do say that the CRT screens do have a long life compared to the LCD's,the replacement by another CRT would be in the budget and effective too.

My laptop is 1.5 years old and my desktop is approximately 4 years old. But they both serve me well till now. Though I'm planning to get rid of my old desktop and get a new desktop or maybe laptop if budget permits someday in near future.
Happy mylotting my friend.
