Hello everyone.
I have this habit of having a doubt whether
I have locked the house once I have locked and
come out. Often I come again to pull the lcok
again and again and check. Once the lock came away
with padlock. Has anyone else have had similar experience?

Hello, thanks for your response.
Yes you are correct.
When one gets older one gets rid of such fears.
Also I think when one becomes very much sure of
oneself one can get rid of such fears and doubts.

The same thing happens to my husband and me all the time. When we get to the car we usually ask eachother: "Did we lock the door or not?" and we are never sure, so we always have to go back and check. We have never forgotten to lock the door, but we always get in doubt. I think that we both have a bit of OCD, sometimes we argue about the topic and sometimes we laugh about it. We try to make it a habit to check the door before we walk to the car, but sometimes we forget to check it. Even though we are 99% sure that we did lock the door, we simply have to check it.

Hello thanks for your response
When ever I go out accompanied by
some bodyelse, I do not get any doubt.
My husband who is very keen in checking
does the lcoking. Even he sometimes checks again.
So I think it is common trait for our family

I rarely worry if I remembered to lock the house. Actually I find myself locking it so automatically that I will accidentally lock it when I do not want to, such as when taking multiple trips in and out to take out the trash and recycling.

I do something similar. I sometimes will leave my residence, get in my car, start driving, and then think "Did I turn my curling iron off?" My curling iron shuts itself off after awhile, but thinking that it might still be plugged in bothers me. So, I will turn around, park my car, go into my reseidence, just to check. 99% of the time, I unplugged my curling iron, but I have to check to reassure myself. I am not a doctor, but I have diagnosed myself with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I know that this is a legitimate medical condition and I am NOT poking fun at this condition at all.

Hello mindym thanks for your response.
I was in the habit of only checking the door lock
Other things usually I make sure they are in
order before coming out.
Some times I feel very funny to see myself
pulling the lock. So I thought I will share this

hi shantha hatley here. I havent but Iused to work with
the childrens librarian Gale. Everytime she would lock up
the livbrary while we stood outside, she wouldhave to go'bAck in as she was sure she had not locked it, then she would have to reset'the alarm and we all had 60 seconds to get out and lock the door again.\this used to tee some of the others off as they were ready to '
go home after a long day and didnt want to wait around again.

Hi Hatley happy to hear your views.
Yes this must be the fear of security which
makes one check the lock repeatedly.
In your case your librarain making you
people wait longer to go home because
of her this habit looks funny. Anyhow it is
sometimes difficult to get rid of this f
habit .I hopw the librarian has come out of
her habit now and the children need not wait
for longer time to go home
Have a nice day

Hi, shantha. Yes, I have this same similar experience. I actually do the same thing. I do this with my mailbox too. I know that I lock it but I will check it. Sometimes, I feel like it is not locked enough, so I go back and lock it again. I do this for security purposes. I just extra cautious..

I sometimes have this doubt, but very rarely I go back and check. Whenever I went back, I found that the door was locked properly. My cousin also has this issue. She stands at a higher level compared to me. She often has the doubt whether the door is locked properly,, whether the gas stove is switched off, and whether all the lights are turned off.

The feeling of insecurity must be a repressed fear about something. You just have to trust yourself that you had locked the door correctly. If you like, get a double lock. It might help you banish the worries.

Hello, thanks for your response.
Yes you are correct. Fear aboutsomething
which happened in the past creates the
feeling of insecurity about our house.
Yes your idea of securing a double security system
will solve the problem. I have almost come out of it.

I lock the doors but I am not sure about switching off the lights, ac, geyser...I bother about this much more than locking the door...because I have only 2-3 things to lock but switching off the lights is annoying in my aprtment because I have 2-way switches, so when there ia a powercut while leaving, it is difficult to identify whether the lights were switched off or not...my mom also keeps checking if the door is locked or not?

Hello radx,thanks for your response.
Checking the locks has become a habit and more
so because the news about burglaries.
Yes not putting off electrical appliances
may cause damage in case of powercuts
and the power returns suddenly. I have made it a habit to
put off all the lectric things once their use is over
