Today my honey's mom and grammy went to CT today, two hours drive from where we live. We were having a little problem on the way back because grammy doens't have a good sense of direction and my honey's mom was not too sure and I am not familiar with the area at all so we ended up looking for it for a while. I always have a good sense of direction, knowing where I am going and where the locations of this and that. I seldom get confused with it. What about you? Do you agree that women has no sense of finding direction? I do not. I believe it is just personality thing, men can be like that as well. What do you think about this? Let's share your opinion.

Me ! I am hopeless at directions. I get lost easily. I can never know an area if I am new to it, or even if I have gone to a particular place say twice or thrice. My husband always jokes that if you get lost and think you should be taking the right road, stop and take the left one. Then you will reach your destination. My sense of direction is awful, so unless i know the area properly, I prefer to ask people for guidance rather than run around in circles.

I dont think I have a good sense of direction. I always get lost. I always confuse with where I wanna go. I used to go shopping with my sister a lot. She usually lead me the way. And with her I wont get lost easily I think. She has a good sense of direction.

good question. I don't know if men are better in it, let's leave it at that, we don't want to bring in the expert's reports saying woman have higher IQ then men, and we can do anything just as good, if not better than men. no no, let's not go there. hahaha. Personally, i stink at direction, i can get lost in the same town i've been living for 6 years. mainly because i'm not the one doing the driving 90% of the time. Or maybe because we don't go out of our way looking for a new place to hang. (at this point, i look at my last sentence and go, what has become of me? i sound like an old person who has no fun in life... wait till i graduate, i tell myself again. sigh) anyway, that's that. but direction in other sense i guess i'm good at that. for example, me and my friend went out looking for a dress for her, she has a huge date coming up, so we stood there for more than an hour while this whining sales person kept telling us she can't find that design of the dress at that size... So i pulled up my sleeves and went digging myself, 3 seconds. i found her dress and she loved it. Thats direction too if you think about it, cause i could have been digging for hours like that whining sales person. just an example, but that kind of situation have happened a lot around me. call it luck or direction.

Well if you are getting old, your memory seems to be fading out. You more or less forget things unintentional that you yourself know it. You can easily say that you have a sense of direction because you are still young. Elders tend to be forgetful either man or woman.

I don't think it has something to do with man or woman. I have a good sense of direction but my wife also has, and some of my friends get easily lost. Its something that grows with us or not.

I can't find my way out of a wet paper bag ,with a whole in it. If it says to turn right,I turn left. Now my daughter can find her way anywhere she wants. So I do believe it is a universal thing not just a women problem. I find that lots of men have this ego issue, that does not permit them to, ask for directions. In this case ,I would stop at the first sign of being lost to ask for help.

Hello mermaidivy, I think women are not as good as men at finding direction. That is my opinion and it is alright if you won't agree with it *smiles* I am one bad example. I always lost my way and I don't even know where to go next - south or north, east or west. Whenever I follow the signboard and out of sudden the place that I am looking for is not listed at the next stop, I will lost my way! The one who gives me direction must tell me clearly and in detail for example, I need to go to Town A first before I can reach Town B if I drive from Town C and vice versa. If they missed one small detail, I will definitely lost!

Comparing my brother and myself, my sense of direction is 100 times better. If someone takes me somewhere, I can get home. If we go somewhere I have never been before, though, I'm not as likely to find where we need to be. My dad has the best sense of direction. We were once stuck in traffic in a little mountain town. He gets tired of waiting so he takes the next road on our right. We ended up about a mile from our rental house and never saw the main roads. We always pick on him about it but we have a lot of fun!

I actually had to laugh when I read the last part of your discussion about women not having a good sense of direction. I can just imagine a friend of mine saying.... No they dont. Women are terrible at giving directions and I do not like taking irections from them. He goes through this ever so often as he works at leading funiture store here. Sometimes he does extra jobs by delivering a clients purchase at their request. he's always morning and groaning about women's sense of direction. I definately do not have a great sense of direction. I hate feeling out of sorts when I go to places I am not familiar with and I have to find my way around.

Oh, I don't have a sense of direction. I still get lost inside a mall you know hehe. That' why I seldom travel alone. I can't remember street names. I just try to remember the way to get to a particular place or maybe a landmark. But if I am going to ride a cab, I can't say what street the driver should take me. I'd rather walk hehe. Ciao!

Hi Ivy, I don't believe that this has anything to do with gender, I actually believe it is an inherited feature. My father has an excellent sense of direction, I also have, and so does my young son. We all just seem to home in to the right place or make accurate guesses on roads without using maps. On the other hand I know lots of people who have no sense of direction at all and don't pay attention to landmarks they pass so can rarely find the same place a second time, or in some cases a twentieth time. I think it's in the genes.

I'm a woman, and I don't have a good sense of direction. But I agree with you that not all women have a bad sense of direction. I know a woman who can remember places and directions easily even if she only gets to see a place once. That's why we all love traveling with her.

I think you're correct because I'm a guy and I have a bad sense of direction. I always feel nervous about getting lost when going somewhere new or somewhere I don't go very often (I am the stereotypical guy in that I hate to ask for directions, so not getting lost is a big deal!). One of these days I'm going to get a GPS unit so maybe that'll make life easier for me. I've heard of some people following those too trustingly and ending up driving into a ditch or lake, though!

no I am lousy, I get north And south and east and west mixed up; and have to use the sun to get oriented.but I think this is personal. i am a woman but I know a lot of other women whose sense of direction is perfect while some guys are worse than i Amn in finding the directions. I am learning in my elder years but I Am not really very good at it.My son has an excellent sense of direction as did his dad when he was alive, its just me who is lousy at directions.ha.

hi mermaidivy well, ya I do have sense of direction , but when I got in my university before 2 years made me feel alittle bet suspicious coz my university is like a city once you get in , even new teachers and doctors they have to be at first lost and always ask student till they get used to it :) like they are in the land of lost LOL and ya it has nothing to do whither its men or women all of them are human and they forget and remember like my mom and my uncle they need strong sense of direction LOL

I have a terrible sense of direction, and I can get lost everywhere. It has always been a problem for me. When I was a child my father wanted to "test" my sense of direction, and when we were a few streets away from our home he asked me: "Do we have to turn right or do we have to turn left?" I didn't know the answer, and I chose the wrong direction. I will never forget the shocked look on my father's face. He just stared at me and said: "Oh my god, I simply don't believe this, you can't be serious" but the truth is I was completely lost. Our home was really close to that street, but I had no idea how to get there. When I got older I was often embarrassed about my bad sense of direction. When a new date or boyfriend wanted to drive home, I had no idea how to get there, and tried to hide the fact that I had to use a map in my own town When I was taking my driving test, my driving instructor told me to drive back to my home when the lesson over, and even though we were quite close to my street I had to ask the instructor how to get to my home, I simply couldn't find the right streets on my own. My driving instructor thought that it was cute and funny, but I didn't find it funny at that time!

Women do have a sense of direction, and sometimes they are the ones who guide men, during long drives. Yes I do have a good sense of direction, and very rarely get lost or not able to direct the proper way. I just remember some landmarks which helps us a lot to trace our way quickly.
