How can you tell who your best friend is?

People alway say well this and that person is my best friend.But how do you really know who you friend is.I have had so many friends that I have lost because I considered them a friend and they ended up stabbing me in the back or either her here say from another person.but I think sometimes you can kind of sense who that friend is. So tell me how you can discover who your friend is?

I consider a best friend someone who has a same humor as me; they won't get hurt or offended at my jokes. And of course, they don't backstab, spead rumors, or lies. Those are the two most important things I look for in a best friend.
