I was reading this historical romance, again as usual it struck me at how different men used to be, and these novels are done from deep research and investigation, so they are true, even if the plot is made-up. I have a friend who would give anything to go back in time and find herself a gentleman, it funny to hear her talk about it, how well she has everything thought out. but its kind of true isn't it. I mean when was the last time, a guy opened a door and let you in first, or something more polite? the guys from the historical novels seem like from a different world. This morning i read an article from msn about 3 white lies that men can and should say, now this are kind of things a gentleman would say. the stuff guys say to girls these days isn't even close to what a gentleman would say. in fact, the word gentleman is hardly used these days.
I guess it all depends on the lady herself. some girls, prefer to be modern, pay half the bill of the restaurant, drive themselves home, etc. I personally am like that, i pay for my own stuff, i have no problem doing my own stuff myself, i can even get the door for myself. haha. but once in a while, don't you just wish you'd find a gentleman?
Is the guy in your life, a gentleman? does it matter if he is or isn't?
The reason we fall in love is different for every person i guess.
p/s: I just want to know what you think, no offense intended to anyone.

hi dex, the idea of a gentleman is a little dated as a term these days but it has nothing to do with being a 'gent' as defined by class. The real sign of a gentleman, who could come from the poorest background, is his manners and the respect he shows.
Like Marguicha I find that men always pay when we are out together, the days of opening the car door maybe gone but they still drop you off at the door if it's raining and drive in the dark. I'm lucky to live in a place which does tend to have a polite culture, men help ladies out with horrid tasks, comment on appearance and show great kindness.

I am old. That is, I don´t think I´m old but you might. I´m 64 years young. I like men to open the door for me and I give them a dazling smile so they remember to do it again. I never pay at a restaurant, theater, movie, anything if there´s a man around. I do pamper them at my home. I make wonderful meals for them and know exactly who likes what. Sometimes, for parties, I make several types of meals so everyone has his choice.
When I was married, I did a lot of things for my husband, even when I worked out. And he did other things I did not like to do or could not do. When our first daughter was born, he never changed a diaper. But at night, I would hear first the baby crying, kicked him with my elbow and went on sleepingEveryone has their way to manage.
Take care
