Your boss is not on the same field of work

I have a boss which is very intelligent in her field which is political analysis. She has a lot in mind that really makes me admire of her but of course on political analysis points. I am in the field of Information Technology and obviously we don't think the same and our interest is far from each other. She do her thing and I do my thing of course but she really don't understand the semantics of ICT field specially in Software and Web Development. Maybe she is thinking that this is simple as writing an essay or speech but this is a big NO. In IT Development, you cannot create a good and reliable system overnight. She keeps on expecting us to deliver the system the next day or the next week but hey, we can deliver that but of course not 100% and unstable. Of course we don't do sub-standard system that's why I keep on explaining to her that it won't happen so we keep on asking for a extended time frame. But she seems pretty convinced that everything can be done overnight because every now and then we are undergoing in to that kind of debate.

yes it gets very frustrating when your boss is not same in your line of thinking even if he's or she's the boss. Then debates can go into arguments and work will not be done anymore.
I have encountered a similar situation not with the boss but the direct supervisor in the field. I literally go out into the field to be with people but I directly report to someone who has the experience but not much as I have and she has no theory and I have studied it and practiced it. And when you suggest otherwise she totally disagrees because her experience said so.

sounds really bad!! maybe she need more study and she is a little too confident. i haven't met this issue before and i think good communication between you and your boss is very important. anyway, don't make things too worse and you can prove to her IT field is much difficult. Show her some books and insist her to read them.
