I have a niece who are an avid collection of teenage magazines. She got boxes for different editions of her favorite magazines, like candy magazines, seventeen, teen people, pink, Elle girl, k-zone, and total girls. She always saves her allowance every month to buy her favorite magazines. I think we gonna have a garage sales for magazines it fill her room with almost more than 2 boxes. But she hate the idesa. she loves those stuffs and will even quarrels to her little sister if she read and crumple the pages. she says she like and loves collecting it as she learn from the articles and many fashion ideas. They have lots of pictures which sometimes she imitates the fashion.. How about you? Do you know a member of your family who like to collect magazines? What are your reasons in collecting magazines? What kinds of magazines? What satisfaction you derive from it?

I used to actually. When I was in high school, I wanted to collect all of the W.I.T.C.H. comics episodes. I just loved the whole story of it all. But as time went on I got busy that I got left behind the flow of the story. Ive already missed a lot of episodes that I didnt bother catching up. I actually only bought 3 of those for myself. All the rest of the episode on the series I just borrowed from friends and classmates.
I also collected K-Zone during that time. It was their first release and I think Harry Potter was on the cover. Im just not sure but I do remember that the cover interested me enough to make me buy that first issue. Then every month Id buy the newest issue of K-Zone. I relate to it more since I am a techie and into cartoons rather than TotalGirl(fashion and girly stuff). I still have those issues and I really want to dispatch them so to speak but when I look at it I change my mind and I keep it. They just hold memories for me and I am a sentimental person. I have 2 and a half years worth of those K-Zone magazines and they are in mint condition. They still have the promo stickers and in their original plastic.
I did attempt to collect songbooks with those songs that I really like plus a chord chart of some sort. But that attempt kinda failed cause there are a lot of songbooks out there but there isnt one book that has all my 'favorite' songs. One or two would be missing so I dont buy it.
Anyway, as time went on I kinda changed perspective on magazine buying. Aside from the fact that Im starting to be broke(LOL) I kinda viewed them as dust collectors and space occupiers. That's because after reading them, I dont read them anymore. They get "shelved" and forgotten, unless something comes up that would compel me to read them again(which is a rare occasion).
So I guess, that's that.

Hmm, that is true. It would depend on the level of maturity of an individual as to what type of things he/she would collect. You also made me think of our different priorities in life. In wanting to buy a magazine, we would think of the other possible things or expenses that we could use the money for, rather than the magazines and that weighing of the pros and cons, affects our final decision.

hi bjcrix,
yeah, before my nieces no matter what we says to her to saves her money rather than buying unendless issues of her favorite magazines. I always remind her to save her money as their may be more important things that matter than to concentrate her mind on collecting when she could not even manage where to put her magazines.
Now, she is in first year college and we already have internet connection she reduce her impulsive buying of magazines and decides to read the issues on the main websites of her favorite magazines. And, it really helps a lot in making her learn to values savings rather than spending on something which may be useless for a long time if she abandon it later on. have a nice day!

That is really parts of every teenager life and almost everyone have experience having fads or simply a craze for the in things during those times where the teeners like of your age vastly collect magazines to make their peers aware that they could buy stuffs such as magazines as they have something to show to their friends. But, when your interest subsides as your levels of interest changes and so is your choice.
Magazines collection becomes popular only for a brief period and loses its popularity dramatically as your interest wanes depending on the level of your maturity. Collecting magazines to some people is a sign of immaturity as it is a waste of money collecting when on the long run you did even bother to read the pages again. Then, realize their are other life more important to be focus on rather than collecting magazines.

I use to collect magazines when I was a teenager and there are times I still save some magazines but not as ofter as I once did. I use to get the posters out of some of the magazines and put them on my walls in my rooms. Of acters and singers from the 80s. That was such a long time ago.

That was really a part of memories and other stuffs we get fond of..really depending on at levels of interest which attract us to buy magazines and other stuffs as part of growing up phases. Then, interest changes as priorities changes too..just like fashion and fads..

My dad has every issue of Playboy since 1966. Funny thing is as useless as we think they are they may be of value someday. I know in my dads case he has been offered a nice chunk of change because of the past people who have posed in the magazine.Maybe this is her thoughts.Or she could just be a pack rat like me ,I reference back at times if ,I know it was in a particular magazine such as PC world or Natural health.

I also loved collecting magazines. When I'm not married yet my favorites were: Cosmopolitan, Seventeen and Yes Magazines. I love looking for new fashions and tips how to beautify your skin, although I don't do it. Now, that I'm already married and have a kid on my own my favorites were: Good Housekeeping and Smart Parenting. It's great that I have this magazines, because it guide me in my everyday living. I got many informations like how to overcome common problems for first time mother like me.

preferences in terms of collecting changes as your situation or a person frames of mind changes depending on your current situation. Priorities changes and so is the likes and dislikes..In your cases, your choice of magazines is inline with your marriage status not like during the times you are still teenagers..your choice now is more of mature content and more informative..

Your niece may have an idea there. Those may turn out to be quite valuable, after keeping them a few years.
I do collect certain books, but so far, i only have a very small collection. One item in my collection is a 1903 Bible. I look for rare finds at fantastic prices, and i did get that one at an unbelievably low price.

In the past I had lots of computer magazines and they were regarded as my treasure. A few months ago I cleaned my home and I sold them as the paper. I know they were important for me. But right now the computer stuff has impoved a lot and I shall look forward. Even if I store them, I may not read them again.
I love China

I too suggested it to my nieces to reduce her collections in order to saves her monthly allowances and spend less on her collection as even magazines and even books have their own content publish in the computer..This way you could read the content of your favorites magazines online..

Hi
I do have the same habit, if I purchase any magazine I will preserve it and do not like if anybody destroys the pages. Now I don’t have time to read magazines but I have collection of old magazines like Reader’s Digest, some native language magazine etc. Now I prefer to buy story books which are useful for my kids. Now another fact I am realizing that loosing my reading habit. I don’t have patience to sit and read.

Different levels of reading depends also on the ages and preferences of the readers. Just like my teenager niece, her choose of magazines have topics which are crossly related to her teenage lifestyles. While, a mature readers collects any reading materials related to her hobbies which she learn more valuable skills which is useful to help her gets some strategies and tips..

I used to collect magazines when I was a student, later it ended up in saving lots of magazines and finding place to save them was a bit difficulty. Som my mom asked me to throw away them and only keep books. Even now I like to keep magazines, but there is no space. I live in a hostel and we two people share a room. So, I keep them for a small time and throw it out.

well, i consider any magazine as some kind of history. i used to collect magazines like vogue, interview, time, newsweek, wired, etc. but today's internet makes them available. and keeping these magazines will just add to 'junk' that will not be read anymore considering the amount of information we receive daily from the net. we could hardly keep up with events. certainly, for me, keeping magazines these days are not worth the while anymore.
