First of all, I appreciate your concern about the issue and wish to thank you for starting this discussion.
There are many myths about H1N1, so people need to have correct knowledge about it. I would like to tell these things:
1. H1N1 is not an air borne disease, i.e. it does not spread with air, but with the droplets an infected person spits out while coughing or sneezing. So, people need not mandatorily use a mask, in fact an infected person needs to use it for sure.
2. People should try to keep themselves away from huge gatherings. Because in such conditions, with so much closure, there are strong chances of one getting the disease from an infected person. Moreover, one should try to maintain a safe distance of around 6 feet from an infected person.
3. Properly clean those stuffs that may have been touched by an infected person, or at least not to touch them at least 8-10 hours after being touched by an infected person. Experiments have shown that H1N1 virus can live upto 6-8 hours at places like canteen tables, door handles, taps etc.
4. Last but not the least.. the most important one: DO NOT PANIC. H1N1 is curable, and most of the affected people have been cured of the disease. Only about 1.5% of the infected worldwide have lost their lives (which is even lesser than deaths due to road accidents which is around 1.8% of total deaths).
5. Learn about the disease and the virus and spread the awareness among others.
I hope we get over this epidemic very soon!!

We've undergone series of training and seminar last month about Influenza A H1N1
and I've learned that the several simple precautions so transmission would be lessened.
First precaution is regular and frequent handwashing, especially if you are handling patients or sick persons, this is to deter spread of any microorganism.
Next is that when you cough or sneeze, always cover your mouth and nose by the use of your arms (not your hands because when you touch things with your bare hands, the droplets would tend to stick to that particular thing and another person might touch that contaminated thing as well, and you know what happens next).
Then maintain a healthy body, because if your immune system is healthy, there would be lesser tendency for you to get transmitted. If you're starting to cough and have colds, drink plenty of water and just stay at home.
All of these are simple, yet great ways for this Influenza A H1N1 virus to be defeated.

Hi Jazzbabe,
Thank you for the info.
AS I understand people with poor immune system are more susceptible for H1N1. Being a viral disease, it targets the immune system of the body and hence one has to be develop good resistance, by adopting healthy practises like eating good food, proper exercises, hygiene and maintain healthy habits.
One has to understand the concept of contamination and disease spread, to control it better.
Thank you for your comments again.

I am trying to avoid over crowded places like concerts and malls and only go out places if it is truly necessary to do.

We're provided with one free mask at school (just one, buy the rest~~~) I will wash my hands well after coming home (even before the spread of this case, I already practise washing my hands everytime I reach home) I also drink a lot of water and eat well balance meal. I will avoid crowd (I always hate crowded people anyway~~~)

Hi,
That's a good deed. Providing masks to children at school is a good gesture and can bring awareness among children to be aware of this epidemic. I am sure personal hygiene will go a long way in preventing the disease to a great extent. Thank you for sharing your views.

Now H1N1, not swineflu, thanks.
Pandemic flu,2009, is the latest model in diseases, hehe ,,, it is easily to distribute. But mortality rate is slow. On the other hand, the virus can transfer from one to another. So people must wear reliable mask like N95. We must live with a good ventilation. We must clean our hands thoroughly before and after eating or after returning from bus or outside. We must care ourself our health. We must give health education about H1N1 to others concerning with protecting the disease. Then, we can protect the H1N1 by the above reasons.
this is in my experience and my own opinion .... u can add new one ... :)

Hi,
Thank you for the clarification.
It is true that understanding the disease etiology is very important in evolving a control/ cure to any disease. I feel that ignorance about the disease is one major reason for panic across the world.
Anyways Thank you for the tips and being so informative.

Just the usual day to day routine of being healthy even without the swine flu pandemic or epidemic. Washing of hands is very important before and after doing something maybe about food or other things. Eating healthy and getting enough sleep.
Then the newer one would be social interaction is minimized like going to overcrowded places during the flu season.
