Is keeping your word important to you?

For most of us promises are easily made, it is keeping them often proves more difficult. We sometimes find it simpler to agree to undertake an almost impossible task than we do to say no. When we aspire to consistently keep our word, however, we protect our reputation and promote ourselves as someone who can be trusted. Do you consider your word to be one of your most precious and powerful possessions?

I would rather make a small promise that I can keep, than make a larger one that I won't be able to keep. I never understood these people who make all these big promises that they can't keep, just because they look good initially. They look horrible when they don't keep their promises.

Hey,
Yes of course, I would always keep my words, and I would never break my promises. A promise is a promise, and I will never break it. Some people think that a promise isn't real, and they go along telling everyone. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

keeping my word is not only important to me because it is a must but i see it as a direction to what i should do. i see it as a gauge of my character and how i want others to see me, my own family and the family where i came from .

Yes, I always keep my word. I always follow my commitment because I hate people who cannot keep their words. I am someone who expects what has been promise so I make sure that I also keep my promise because I myself don't want to be given false promise or false expectation. I think this is just one way of saying " don't do to others what u don't want others to do unto you".

hello Pose123,
Indeed, my word is very important to me. If I said so, I always make a point to do it. So before saying yes to anybody else I will say to it that it is really posiible to do it. If not, I will not promise at all.

If I give you my word, no matter what I will do what I promised, because of that I do not give my word often. I may say I'll try to do what you want or need but usually I will not promise, the world often comes between the wants and the needs of all of us. Blessings

hi pose
i really do keep my word, in other words i don't really make promises
unless and untill i am sure of things i don't want to make promises... there are also related things about making promises in the bible... don't assume things to happen the way you wish, everthing is in God's hands... not even a leaf can vibrate if God didn't wish it too.

For me promise is a promise, it's been made and have to fulfill that promise.
It's about custom or habit that we have.
I always keep my words to everyone, cause i dont be disappointed with other people who has kept the words to me.
I give an example to my children to keep their word for everybody.
You right, we have to promote ourselves as someone who can be trusted.

Hi shimanaja, We agree on this and also that we should teach our children to do the same. Our friends and family need to know that they can depend on us to be true to our word. It also helps us to know that others know that we can be trusted. Thanks for your comment. Blessings.

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my word will not pass away." The promise of God has a great influence on me even from the childhood. Many devotional followers have taught me a lot of lessons of how to keep their words to friends, collegues and God. Today, word has a full meaning for me. Pose123, thanks a lot to start this discussion so that I could share my opinions here.
W means wealth. Like dimmusacio said, my word is my bond. It is the last wealth you could possess. If money is lost, it could be earned back. If house collapses, it could be rebuilt. But if word is broken again and again, no trust will be made.
O means obligation. I really admire women of few words like izathewzia:) Promises are not to be broken but to be realized. They are your own obligations, you will not forget them in deep of your heart. So whenever it seems too difficult to toe the mark, I choose not to say my words.
R is reputation. Aurone, I am sorry to hear about your broken-heart marriage. But your attitude to keep word even for a party must have won you great reputation among your friends. Your best friends will never forsake you. Best wishes.
D is darling. True love depends on true words. As time pass by, colorful faces will decay. But true words could make the two still find both attractive and bind them forever.

I was raised to believe that a person is as good as their word and that you should never make promises that you are not able to keep. I am the type of person who, if I say I am going to do something, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be doing just what I say.

my word is important to me as well, but there are times that i can not keep a promise for i am busy. but before hand a send a sorry note that i can not fulfill my promise or can not stand by my word. specially when i promise friends that i will be there for them ona certain celebration. when it is something really imposible then i just wont promise anything. i need to be realistic, of course. i would like to make sure that i do what i promise but if can not then i will make sure i will say so before anything happens.

Hi roniroxas, I agree that it's important to keep our promises, but there will always be times when it becomes impossible and that' a different matter. We should never make a promise to someone and immediately forget about it. Thanks for your comment. Blessings.

I do indeed. I try to keep my word no matter what, even if it is just my agreeing to go to a party or something. This makes me vulnerable to people who do not keep their word like my ex-husband who broke many promises including our vows, when he divorced me earlier this year. Our vows meant something to me and I kept them but obviously he felt like he could through them away. Plus he promised me other things that he didn't upheld and he treated me badly like I would break my word on things like he has done, but I did not. I did exactly what I told he I would do.
It sometimes astounds me how people will so easily break their word, how are you supposed to trust and therefore have relationships of any sort with people like that?

Yes, my words are so important to me. So I make it sure that I am always true to my words. Fulfilling my promises and committing myself to what I said I am will do. When I say it, I should do it.

Keeping my word is a very important thing to me. When I promise to do something for someone, I always fulfill it and do not ever go back on my word as I made the promise in the first place.

As they say "promises are made to be broken".... its sad but most of the time its true. People just takes things for granted, its so easy to say things but so hard to keep it especially if your just being forced to do so. But then again, its always right to be honest, if one cannot keep a promise then just do not make one after all its not a promise anymore one's its broken.
