Lucknow is the city of historic heritages,of which exploration may take quite a long time during one's stay at Lucknow. It has a host of historic places.Nawab Asa-ud-Daulahad made great contribution in making Lucknow a historic place. Bada Imambadawas built by him as famine relief project in 1784.At old lucknow area,a old building called Asafai Imambara.Where the then Nawabs of Lucknow used to hold their public hearings in central hall. It is said that this hall is the world’s largest arched(big dome shaped hall)room without any pillars. The upper floor,Bhulbhulaiya, is also famous as a fantastic labyrinth. It is believed that a stranger cannot come out of this maze without any assistance from some expert guide. From the top of this Imambara,we can have a fine view of the city along with the Aurangzeb Mosque.Bhul Bhulaiya(Is a Lost & found situation) at "Bada Imambada"is the real attraction and should be always accompanied by a qualified tourist guide. There is a mosque at the Bada Imambada, but,non-Muslims are not allowed inside. Rumi Darwaza also built by Asaf-ud-Daula, for the same relief project in 1783, is another historical attraction of Lucknow. It is a facsimile of one of the gates of Constantinople, and is 60 feet high.
The Husainabad Imambada was the brainchild of Mohammad Ali Shah, built in the year 1837. It is also known as Chhota Imambada. It is believed to be the tomb of Mohammad Ali Shah himself. The Chhota Imambada has a tank with small imitation of the Taj Mahal on either side. One as of his daughter, and other as of his son-in-law. The main Imambada is at the top with golden dome, which houses the tomb of Mohammad Ali Shah and his mother. The Imambada is illuminated wonderfully during Muharram. If you have planned to visit Lucknow during Muharram then it will become one of the lifetime memory for you.
Lucknow Residency is the another such monument which was used to be the residence of the agent of East India Company in Avadh. This is near Hazratganj area -the centre of the city.

Non Muslims are not allowed to worship here. The Picture Gallery, built near the clock tower of Husainabad Imambada in the 19th century, has collection of portraits of almost all the Nawabs of Lucknow.
Other attractions are - a ‘bottomless’ well in the courtyard and Rumi Darwaza, an exquisitely designed gate built by Asaf-ud-Daula, which is a replica of the one; in Istanbul.
Lucknow is famous for its chickan works. It is an intricate thread work with Zardosiand crystal, done by skilled craftsmen of Lucknow. Lucknow is also famous for jewelery and ornaments. For shopping of jewellery you can visit Gadbadjhala.
