Where is your favorite place to ride?

My friends gave me a bike a few months ago. I used to ride when I was a teen but hadn't ridden in quite awhile. I would really like to do some trail riding but haven't tried that in years either. I usually ride around town some (mostly for the cross training since I run) but sometimes I like to just take off through the country! Where do you like to ride and why do you ride? Just to save gas? -- that's not a bad idea either!! Go green!!!

You could say I used to ride to save gas... although it was kind of a lie since it was more because I couldn't afford a car!
I've never tried actual trail riding on a bike. I'm more of a street bike type of person. I always ride with the intent of going somewhere. But I do need to start riding again just for some exercise, especially now that I want to go ride the marathon coming up since I won't be in good enough shape to run it yet.

I could modify my bike into a trail bike fairly easily, I should try it eventually.
The most mileage I ever got up to in one day was 40 miles I think. It took me 3 hours. I used to ride 100 miles per week when I didn't have a car. And now that I have a car, I drive 300 miles per week instead, lol.
Cycling is definitely a lot of fun though. One thing I love about cycling that you just don't get with running, is that at least when you get to the top of the hill, you get to go flying down it! But with running, you get to the top and then it isn't exactly a free ride down.

Yeah! Go for the marathon ride! That would be great! I only tried trail riding a time or two. One was a real easy trail actually more like a path through the woods. It was okay. I tried a rougher trail one time and it was fun,but I wasn't in shape for it. So far I have riden 11.5 on the road as my longest ride lately... we'll see. I'm moving so I dont' know what any of that will look like from there!

Yeah, I love the downhill ride, at least you get a bit of real rest. It's not really resting when youare running! I haven't ever riden that much!

Hi macdligolinger, I prefer to bike in front of the french windows so I can look at the view and hopefully feel a breeze at the same time. That's on the spin bike of course. A real bike! Must be kidding, potholes, hills, manic drivers, either too much heat or torrential rain. When it's the cooler months I like to take a walk.

lol! Yeah, the real bike! I do have to admit that there are some crazy drivers out there. They do not act like they know I have the right of way. That's why I always wear a helmet!!! It's scarey to run or bike on roads as people don't seem to know what common curtesy is any more!!! Enjoy your view!!!

Hi pigglies, well mine came with broken speedometer and miles pedalled. My friend put it together so well for me that it will now not come apart to take the broken bit off and back to the shop. So I've no idea at all what would happen if I ever even reached 20mph.
Thanks for the best response macdkiglonger.

Yeah, it's probably too hot there to ride safely. Perhaps in te fall? Or in the spring? I didn't realize it was so hilly in Arizona... I'll keep that in mind if I ever head that way!
