I am a Chinese and I have my Chinese name given by my parents. I don't have any Christian name. But for some of my friends, they do have a Chinese name and Christine name too. Let's take a look on one of my dear friend's name. Her surname is Wong, and given Chinese name is Mei Ling. She has a Christian name of Susan. So her full name is Susan Wong Mei Ling. I am wondering mylotters here, do you have a Chinese name, maybe given by your parents or just you get it for yourself?

Busky, since your spouse is a Chinese, why not ask him to create a Chinese name for yourself? The Chinese name can be use when you meet his Chinese family and friends! . Of course this is just my suggestions.

Lulu, glad to know you are Chinese too. May I know what is your Chinese name? Yeah, for foreigner, they find that it is hard to pronounce a Chinese name. That why most of my friends went for study at overseas and come back with a Christian name. I bet their foreigner friends must be having a hard time to call out their Chinese name, hence they get themselves a Christian name.

Hi Celine, Woh, you are very special there, I mean you get so brave to give your daughter name without the knowledge of your father in law. What you hub say about your daughter's Christian name? If you both agree to get the christian name for your daughter , I think your father in law could not do anything. Have a great weekend!

I think only the chinese have chinese names. I am not a chinese so do not have a chinese name but a christian name. Though I speak chinese but that doesn't qualify me to have a chinese name.

I do have Chinese name. But it is a boy's name. My teacher will always give a 'shocking' face on the first day of school when he/she called out the name during registration of students in a particular class. I was very upset at times. So, when I am in Primary Four, my second sister give me the name Irene. So, it just stick until now except I add an 'i' within it to make it mine and special...

Name, and individual mark to have someone addressing us, and we know we are being addressed... And for being a Chinese, with the exposure to the western culture in my family, indeed I carried both my Chinese and Christian name in my birth registration certificate. and with this Christian name that given by my parents, it make my name arrangement in alphabetical order brought forward so much, since my last name started with W. My mum is very particular about the Chinese name, therefore when I had my little girl, I was thinking to make this easier, I omit her Chinese name in her full name by just using her Christian name and last name, and my mum objected it. Finally, we got to get someone to have her Chinese name pick and let us have some choice before the registration of my girl.. and now, I feel my baby's name is just as long as mine.. *hope she won't be angry with me, when she is ask to write her name 100X in school*

Hi Cwong, it is common for some Chinese to carry a Christian name. As for me, my parents are ordinary Chinese and hence they never give me any Christian name. For your daughter, no need to worry so much on her. As long as the name is something given from her beloved mummy, I am sure she would not care about the long name or short name. Have a nice day and happy Mylotting.

hahah.. vingyan.. I actually question my mum and dad on who decides my name.. coz it's really difficult to write and I always get someone mis-spell my name correctly.. whatever way of combination you can think of, it will appear in my name! And now, I am sure my baby's name will have the same faith, coz I change the spelling a little..

Hi, vingyan. I am a chinese too and for sure i do have a chinese name. But i do not have any Christian name. My name is given by my father and i love it so much. I love people calling my chinese name. However, chinese name is already difficult to remember for foreigners. But luckily, my chinese given name is short and easy to remember. My son has a chinese name and also a german name, well..you can also consider it as a Christian name. But we do not put the names together like many people do. Have a nice day and happy mylotting!

All that you need is a name to be called by others. Shakespeare had asked once what is in a name?
