My mothers side of the family is a very large family, but over the years alot of them have drifted apart... although with 9 siblings, there are still many that get together a couple times a year, like holidays, and have a bbq/cookout. We had a small get together for the 4th of july, only most of the family went camping....so it was a very small get together. We were just discussing how the end of summer is coming and we should try to have a bbq for the end of summer and then everyone can get together again....so that got me thinking.... when was the last time you got together with your family for a cookout/bbq?

For the last 3 years we have had a BBQ consisting of my sister, my Cousins (5) and myself. Oh and of course all our children. Each family brings their own food and shares. This guarantees variety. I look forward to our yearly get together. In fact ours is today.

Thanks. It was fantastic. Couldn't ask for a better cookout. We had ribs, chicken, steak, shrimp, corn, potato and macaroni salad, watermelon, carrot cake, sausage, franks, hamburger and some things I might have forgotten or didn't try.

A cookout is a great family get together for the weekends or any public holidays. It is after all once in a blue moon affairs that brings all the family together and to update what was the latest happenings around each family. My family are scattered far and wide and the only chance that we can have this sort of cookout or bbq is at the year end where everyone will take advantage of the long christmas holidays.

I agree, it is the best when you get that time with family and get to just relax and get caught up on what everyone has been doing... sometimes it is so hard to do in just our normal every day lives because of all the things that needs to be done. thanks for the response and have a great day!

Last weekend....we have a family weekend at a cabin at a lake for everyone...my brother, sisters.....nephews nieces....grandkids etc....over 30 of us...so it's a big deal! LOL....almost everyone stays at the cabin...luckily for my family we have a camper only 14 miles from there so we stayed at our camper...with tons of air conditioning as the cabin has only one window conditioners...it was sooooo hot!

It has been quite some time since we have had any family get together, let alone a cookout. For my family, it is a bit difficult because we all live in different states. For my husband's family, it is almost as difficult because we all have our own things to do and jobs to work. My immediae family, being myself, my husband, and our kids, cookout on a fairly regular basis this time of year, but it really isn't anything special because for us, it is just another meal. I would love it if we were able to get the enitre family together. It could be quite entertaining to say the least!!

This summer we did not have a cookout and to be honest it makes me kinda of sad. I love grilled food and always will. I guess we just could not all get together plus I am short the grill as well. I had to throw mine away last year because I caught it on fire with too much lighter fluid. I guess maybe next year or there could be a chance on labor day we might do it as well. Take care and I hope you all get together and get some food a going. Take care again and happy mylotting as well.

We have had 4 this summer so far, and we are going to go to 2 this weekend, It is our grand daughters birthday so our son is having one on Saturday. And then my sister in law is having one on Sunday. So we are going to have a busy weekend with lots of good food.

It's been a LONG time since I've done this. My sister who lives next door to me doesn't drive any more so about the only place she goes is to the beauty shop. That's just once a week and her husband has to take her.My other sister lives in Birmingham and her family is over there as well. My brother lives in Tuscaloosa, which is about 52 miles south of here. He has one son who lives here in Jasper and the other two live down in Orange Beach, Alabama, which is a little over 600 miles from here. As you can see, we're all pretty spread out. When my parents and Ifirst moved out here in 1959, we used to barbeque and cook steaks on the grill all the time. Daddy had a brother who lived in California and he and his family would come to visit us during the summers. We used to cookout like this whenever they would come. I have a patio where we used to cookout. Kathy.

wow you guys are spread out everywhere...LOL sorry to hear you dont have them as often anymore, but I bet it was fun when you did have them.... I know for us we use to have a family reunion picnin every year when I was younger at this park that is about a half hour away from where we live... but it has been forever since we have done that. we had a bbq house warming party when we moved into our house 4 yrs ago... but since then it has only been the family get togethers on holidays since then and not everyone shows since some go camping, etc. thanks for the response and have a great day!!

Yes, it was a lot of fun when my uncle would come from California and bring his family. We would cook steaks on the grill and we kids would play badmitton or volleyball out in the backyard. All of us kids are grown now and some are married with their own families. I still have that grill on my patio, as a matter of fact, but it's rotted. I would like to get rid of it, maybe recycle it. The problem is, it's so heavy and I can't pick it up to put it in my car. There is a place where I can recycle things like that here in Jasper and they will pay you for it. It seems like I remember telling you about this in one of your discussions I responded to about recycling things here lately. Kathy.

Our last big bbq/cookout was during last year festive celebration. Since all family members were home (which rarely happen as some may choose to celebrate it at their spouse's family house) we decided to grill some chicken and made other dishes. It was quite noisy and everyone was having fun. I don't know whether we'll have another cookout this year since my brother might be going to celebrate it his wife's family house. Ah well~~~

I understand that... thats the thing is we all grow up and get married and have kids... and sometimes you have to split up the holiday get togethers between families so it is harder to get together and have a cookout/bbq with your family when it is like that! thanks for the response and have a great day!
