I'm a relatively new member too, and I believe the best way to myLot (yes, I'm using it as a verb) is just to do whatever interests you: join discussions where you feel have the most to contribute, ask questions that will compel people to give insightful comments, and just do a lot of reading. You will get the hang of it, Zoegutta.

You are still new to mylot, you need to take some time to work on mylot, you won't just earn a buck for the first day when you join. I was having a hard time when I first joined mylot too, I felt my earning was so slow all the time, it took me forever to reach a certain amount that I had been looking for but once I get used to mylot, I figured I should stop complaining and work hard. I hope you will find it fun here, once you work hard, when you get paid, you will find out it is worth it.

I am also new to MyLot. I don't think the entire purpose of this site is to make alot of money. The money is just an added bonus to the site. I've only been here for a few weeks, but I've noticed that after posting quality responses and starting discussions that will attract other users, I am starting to make a bit of money. Personally, I enjoy just being here and reading responses from people that come from all walks of life, and seeing the different views on different subjects. I also enjoy typing in any subject in the search bar and reading all the different comments and discussions on topics that interest me. I think MyLot is more of a place where you can make friends, be active in topics that interest you, and practice your writing skills. Just as I mentioned earlier, I think the money part is just a little bonus to the other benefits of taking part in this site. I hope you don't get discouraged, and lots of luck to you!
