Why is it not as fun as mylotting? How do you guys sort out your priorities when it comes to lotting and when it comes to writing? Writing is fun too but it needs a bit more attention polishing the words, grammar, get the storyline straight and whatnot.
How do you guys divide your time, for those whom write? And those who don't, are you only enjoying writing answers in mylot and asking questions? What's your take on article writing?

I confess I need to be writing, but I'm not other than my sarcastic responses.
The story is in my head and a bit on paper but after finishing one novel my mind isn't with it right now and haven't done much beyond poetry. I hate poetry, but it seems to be one of my talents. Go figure!
I don't mind article writing but I find it harder if it is about something that doesn't interest me.

Writing articles!
So what was your novel about, did it take you much time to finish it? Also did you get any outside help on it or did you just go by what was in your head. I think there is a certain format that one would have to go by in order for things to turn out right? I write poems too but so far I've only managed to get one or two of them published. I think it's also a talent of mine because sometimes it seems that I can make up a poem just about anything.
PS: Could you please add me as a friend, thanks in advance and have a great night......

Irishidid, I think I am having the same problem. LOL I guess when I get on MyLot it's easier and a lot more fun to respond and question other people. I completely understand what you are saying about the poetry. I'm really good at accounting but I hate it. Don't tell my former employers. LOL (I worked at an accounting firm and did taxes.)

Article writing is indeed something that requires time and effort. That is, if you want to produce something of good quality. Since I have always enjoyed writing as my past time, I don't mind the kind of attention and detail it requires. In fact, I find it challenging. I think mylotting is fun too but i get a different sense of fulfillment when writing.

I know what you mean. Like when we have submitted an article, the fulfillment cannot be expressed. But those content sites, a lot of people have said that the amount of writing and the effort needed to promote it is almost equal. That's the only hard part, in my opinion.

I understand what you are going through. In fact, I just asked Sheng, if you see the comment above us, and this is the discussion whereby I asked about promotion of articles and writing. Let's see what Sheng says about it:

I have dilemma in this too. I've not yet written a lot, but starting out and trying to add more to my bank of articles. I'm thinking of which strategy to use. Maybe you can read up and gain more knowledge hereafter.

Absolutely. Once you have submitted or published a content online, the hard part is not over yet since you still have to get people to read it by generating traffic. Or else, your article is just sitting there and not doing its job. THat is the challenge with article writing online, which has turned off many writers who do not have the persistence enough to promote their content. I am facing that particular challenge right now but i;m keeping my hopes up that eventually I will get to increase earning potential through article writing online.

Mylotting is a more relaxed setting with less thought to do. However, you can not earn at Mylot the same as you can with Article Writing. Article Writing takes more time, research and focus, and therefore it pays much better. Although most times I'd rather be chilling shooting the breeze here at Mylot, I spend more time writing articles because I know (and have seen) that it is more financially rewarding. So far one f my favorite sites to write on is HubPages. I've earned a lot of money from there and feature them in my profile.

About 4 months. It's all about your topics and the keywords you use. Good thing about is that HubPages has superb search engine credibility -- also they have their own built-in traffic within the community.

Really? That's just so cool; perhaps I could take a look at some of your writings..you said that they are in your profile, right? Writing is a total cool outlet, and you are absolutely right; writing takes a longer time to polish, write a good article and make it work, but it pays better too; in the long run. I also love the short thoughts that I could write off in mylot, like in a flash I could send 3-4 answers to a discussion, but writing takes a longer time. Both are beneficial in their own ways. I shall not give up writing then.. just needing more inspiration. Thanks for your answer, I am inspired..

This is a very good discussion about this. I have been slacking off on writing articles since I wanted to make some money online doing other things where it won't be able article writing. Writing on here is fun because you get to write about different things if you started the discussions and stuff.
I do need to write more for AC which you know.

I like doing both, but for me they completely separate. MyLot is for fun, my other writing is my job. I do MyLot to keep myself in the thick of things and to explore other people's viewpoints. Article and story writing is my passion and that's what I really throw myself into. In the beginning, I got sucked into the MyLot experience and to cut back a bit to prevent myself from becoming sidetracked.
MyLot is great venue and it's wonderful to get out there and see what other people are saying and thinking. I love it. But, my real work is the hard, non-social stuff.

Try writing for Associated Content. Seems that you are from US, and you can write to receive upfront payments and page views at the same time. For international members, they'll only be paid roughly around $1.50 for 1000 page views or so. And the more you write, the more you'll gain. Try and have a look at it yeah.. it's awesome and those free time, you can spend it there..

Actually, I'm doing more the traditional submitting to magazines, getting rejected, repeat, thing. I also have a day job that takes up quite a bit of my writing time. Creditors do like to get paid.
Pretty much, I've pared down to MyLot as my paid online writing thing. I'm looking into other options out there. Can you recommend any?

In all honesty,I don't really make an attempt, when it comes to writing articles.I write coz I love to. Its a creative part of me that I need to vent out and I piece it together as an article.
But when it comes to myLotting, we are here discussing a specific topic.
So for me its as simple as this.myLotting is about sharing my knowledge/opinion about a particular topic.I can do this at any time.
Writing articles for me is something I can indulge and engage in, only when I am in the mood.Only then do the thoughts and the words flow.

I feel the same way. I once read that "writing is not something you do, it is who you are" and "writers do not write because they like writing, they write because they have too, they have a fire burning in their soul that only writing can quench". I wish I could remember where I read these. Anyway, they seem very appropriate to my feelings and your comment.

I can post on here a whole lot faster in most cases. However I look at it as they are tiny posts. I post in my myspace blog all of the time. I do however plan on paying a bit more attention to posting some articles so I can start to make some more money. So to date I have not divided my time. I just come here to mylot and post to the topics that seem interesting or until I get tired. Then I might browse other areas to write on and if something jumps out at me I will go into it.

Exactly.. I find it more easier to just keep on answering discussions and whatnot here in mylot than trying to find that 'perfect' alone time to write articles. There are just lots of ideas, but sometimes I don't feel motivated to. Perhaps in mylot there are friends, lots of things to discover and learn and in a way, it fills time, really. Whereas for article writing, it needs some time to polish those words, check out for the basic grammar and etc, and you are your own story-writer there. But in mylot, you can just type out anything, LOL .. well I don't know.. it just feels so right here. So I'm not alone here.

I really like mylot because like you said it doesn't have to be grammatically correct. Its almost like a mindless activity. You can mylot and listen to an audiobook at the same time. Who do you write articles for? I think it might be fun to have a writing challenge again. I haven't had anything to stretch my brain in awhile. Once in awhile I've found article writing in the tasks here. They were fun.

Not who, but more to content sites which I think a lot have joined already and perhaps you have too. Trying to get some stuff up in Hubpages as well as Associated Content. I've heard rave reviews about both of these sites.
And hopefully, able to get a portfolio up, but I'm not that too ambitious for a company to approach me to write for them; that kind of thing. Although I know some out there love this and it definitely works for them.
I get about that audio thingy. Does listening to the tube and half-watching it plus answering discussions/commenting in mylot counts?

I feel the same way, mylot is still very fun, compared to article writing.
Recently I have been spending more time writing articles than in mylot. I need to write 119 articles this month for Helium, in order to get the 4th writing star. I force myself to write five articles a day. It's really very tough!
I don't have problem finding ideas for writing, I do have problem keeping up with the momentum.
Mylot is more like a social site, the discussion here is similar to chatting with friends. Article writing is more like sitting for examination.
There is one very important difference. Article writing makes more money. If I can reach the goal of writing 119 articles for Helium this month, I will get at least 238 dollars. There is no way anyone in mylot can make two hundred dollars a month.

You can do it, my friend. I've heard of the awesomeness of the other site you've mentioned too.. how's it for you so far? It's been a long while and I'm mostly sticking in mylot. And are you on AC too? How's your experience writing there in terms of page views?

Thanks Zed, I guess I can keep up the momentum this month. I doubt I can write a hundred articles every month.
After this month of hard work, I will relax, spend more time in mylot, spend more time writing for my blogs, and do some reviews for reviewstream. All these three forms of writing are much easier than writing for Helium.

I enjoy blogging when I tend to replace my template and add more functions into it. Writing is also a big pat of blogging but I really needed time since I can't write something interesting when my mind is divided into some sites.
But I see to it that there will be a time to go here in Mylot and participate in the discussion. The way I spend here is different from the way I do and write blogs on my site.
It is both fun and challenging for me because I need to keep things updated and in here I need to check what are the topics most members talk about. I learn a lot here in Mylot, while when I am blogging, I share the knowledge I know of.

Writing Articles for fun.........
Hello there, glad that you asked. You are right, mylotting is a lot of fun because the answers can be given very quickly and as long as we are writing four lines or a few more we will get paid at least a few cents. Now as far as writing articles go, well let's just say that is a horse of a different color. I've been known to write a few blogs up here and there but I've never actually gone so far as to write a real article. I may decide to get more into as time goes by but like you I"m not too keen on grammar and whatnot, so for the time being I'm just going to stick it out here with mylot. So just out of curiosity what kind of articles are you writing? Also are you writing them for a certain company or a different website or what? thanks for responding and please don't forget to add me as a friend! Wishing you a great weekend, Happy mylot!

Actually, I stopped for awhile and now thought that I want to get back on it. I have lots of ideas coming at times, but at times, I just feel I need to get the 'writing mood' back in, LOL..
Added you as a friend. I'm not yet started writing a novel but mostly I've been trying out content writing sites. I'm already in your friend's list.. take care..

I don't really have a plot in writing (although I am not that much of a writer too). I just write according to my thoughts, and edit it, only if I feel that there's a need to.
I enjoy both answering discussions and starting one here in mylot. But like I have mentioned a lot of times in previous discussions, I only write when it is in my interest. No matter how much the discussion gained responses, if it is still not under my interest, I won't respond to it. This way, I am confident that the responses I give are something that I can add input into, and therefore, are quality answers.

I wish that I could say there is a "method to my madness". I guess it is the influence of my ADHD but I do not plan my day that closely. I start off the week making goals for the week. Throughout the week, I work on which ever project (writing, mylotting, home, personal) strikes my fancy at the moment. I rarely finish an article in one sitting. I usually have 20 to 30 half written articles at any one time. I know this sounds like a crazy system but it works for me.

That is not crazy; but I think if it works for you, then it's all good..
That could be a very good method. Finishing up half-done articles can tend to give us more ideas, inspirations and whatnot.. and the best part is to get all the half-done to fully done. And suddenly would have like 5-10 articles done up. Quite a brilliant idea, I must say.

it just takes practice i guess. practice being articulate. soon enough, you will find yourself writing your thoughts smoothly with hardly any grammatical errors. i keep a blog as a venue for me to polish writing and improve my skills in the craft. i always appreciate it when i receive good comments from my entries.

I am a horrible writer but, would love to blog. I also have no idea how to put it together properly. They would think a pre-school child had written it ,with my grammar and punctuation mistakes.I envy those of you who can put it all together so gracefully. My lot makes it pressure free ,everyone understands my few butchered sentences.

Hey,
Most of the time I actually like to write, but for some reason I just hate article writing. I think that because on MyLot, you can talk about anything you want, but the articles are just too...formal or rather. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!
