Have you fallen asleep while traveling in public transports?

I used to travel by local trains when i was working in 2006. Though i liked traveling in the local train, i often used to get bored traveling all alone and slowly got the habit of falling asleep. And believe me, i used to wake up when the train used to enter my destination - i was lucky.
But many of my friends and family members warned me of the thefts and other anti-social activities and that i should not be sleeping in a public transport - "people may take advantage thinking you are unconscious!" my aunt said - LOL
I also have the habit of falling asleep when i travel in a bus or car to a far off destination. So, MyLotters, do you have any such experience to share?

I generally do not sleep while travelling and never in public/private transports. But i remember an event when i literally fell asleep. Just after our marriage we had to visit temples and family deities which is a ritual in most of the hindu families. I was travelling with my husband and sister in law and on my our way back i had a sound sleep that i fell on the person standing next to me. We had real hectic days visiting relatives and other rituals after marriage and was also made to get up early in the mornings. I could not even manage an afternoon nap. So took the opportunity to sleep in the bus. My sister in law noticed and nudged me to get up with a grin on her face. As a new shy bride i felt odd when i woke up.
Later till date i have never slept in any mode of transportation.
Happy mylotting.

Hi, I'm wary about falling asleep on public transport (trains or buses). I'm worried that I would be so deeply asleep that I don't even know if anyone were to take away my handbag. So I keep awake most of the time. However if I'm on a long journey, then I carry my documents and cards in my pockets or a waist pouch. That way, I can sleep in peace!

I usually don't have to travel by public transportation. I live in a very small town in KY. When I have to travel I usually just drive. Flying is my weakest point on public transportation, and God knows that is the last place that I could fall asleep. Too Scared!! I have only rode a bus one time and it is for about 4 hours and that is another place that I could not go to sleep. Too curious to fall asleep.
divkris just be careful and try to sleep with one eye open.

Hello divkris. I usually sleep when I travel on a bus and a train. It is much easier for me to fall asleep on a train. My wife always asks me to be careful with my luggage. There was one time when someone took away my food bag on the train. I did not notice it until I got off the train.

Hi divkris!
I am wary about falling asleep in public transport though I do not usually take public transport. I am worried that I would be so deeply asleep that I don't even know if anyone were to take away my belongings. But when I am with people I know and I think my things will be secured, by all means, I am going to doze off if I feel like it.

Well, I travel a lot since I conduct training in different places. There are areas that I need to travel by bus and there are those that usually take around 10 hours to arrive. I usually get bored and in this case, I sleep. Luckily, I have never encounter an untoward incidents occurring during my trips. I have no problem exceeding my destinations since the bus usually from terminal to terminal. But normally even prior to arrival in the destination, I am already awake.

I have been traveling by buses until now. There are times that the bus has to travel around 7-9 hours on some of my trip. Yes, I do sleep a little bit during those trip since its tiring and usually I get sleepy. But I am happy that I have not encountered any untoward incidents riding on buses.

Oh, often. I have even been deeply asleep and missed my stop. Sometimes my head would droop and my mouth would fall open and I would drool...how embarrassing is that???
Luckily, I don't use public transport these days but I still fall asleep in cars on long journeys. I need to be especially careful therefore when it's me doing the driving!

I use to take the bus a lot going from and to school. In the afternoon when I'm taking the bus home, I always fall asleep. It's a forty minute bus ride and my only time to rest before I go home and work on my homework and help my mother cook. The weird thing is I always wake up one stop before the one I need to get off. I've been taking the same bus for four years so maybe I subconsciously memorized how long it took for me to get home

Almost.LOL I was just so very sleepy at that time that I tilted my head back to rest for a while, then the next thing I knew I was dozing. Good thing I didnt fall over, other people were already looking at me in my dozing state.
I couldnt normally sleep on public transports but when the traveling time would last for more than 3 hours, and at night, then Id definitely try and get some sleep. It can be difficult at times but at least I have to try and give my body some of the rest that it needs.

At a point of time, I used to take the bus (that my company provided) to get to work.
I was the first one to get on and the last one to get off. So, that led to a lot of sleeping on the bus. I always had a book with me (I'm an ardent fan of reading while travelling) - but somehow did not get a lot of reading done during those trips!
I'm sure my colleagues must have had a good laugh at the sight of my lolling head..I just hope I did not snore as well...that would really be adding insult to injury!
