Hello Iriene. My cell phone is pre-paid, a set amount each month for unlimited everything, and no contract, thank goodness. I hated those! This way is much easier on my budget. My provider is Nextel. Everyone here in the US calls these "cell" phones.

Hi Iriene, yes...unlimited out-going and in-coming phone calls, text messages, and two-way usage. I pay the fee on a certain day each month right over the cell phone itself using information from my debit. No contract, no extra fees, no surprises on one's bill!! And when I pay that way, I do not have to mess with buying the pre-paid cards.
Yayyyy!

Dear Karen,
It is wonderful to have pre-paid service with unlimited everything!
Do you mean unlimited outgoing calls? Unlimited outgoing sms too?
IN Malaysia, sometimes prepaid service got promotion like free 100
sms...therefore, my friend used to sms me on anything 'under the sun',
she has too much free sms, cannot use finish
Thanks for sharing and take care!

You have make a very wise and good choice of prepaid.
It is so convenient and economical too, great job
I just wonder whether they have this fantastic prepaid service
in Malaysia. At the moment the leading provider of pre-paid
service are DIGI in Malaysia. Post paid provider that is very
successful is MAXIS...I am using post paid - Maxis.
All the best and happy mlyLotting!

I also prefer to use prepaid because sometimes postpaid has a limit and it is fixed rate. I don't text and call that much so that's why I use prepaid. I'm SMART and GLOBE subscribers. I'm observed here in the Philippines postpaid users are very few Filipinos often use prepaid because it is cheap and readily available. I'm have E-loading business so that's why I know, Filipinos still prefer to use prepaid.

Dear Warren,
You prepaid provider is called SMART but you are not
satisfied with it!
May I know why you said so, is it they bar you from
calling out or any other issues?
In my sister's case, it is not that her credit finish, but
because the time expired..she need to top up, if not she can't
call out...it is really a hassle.

I am using the prepaid system only for the past 13 years.
I know how much I talk and have an idea of the amount for which I am talking.Easy to top up.Don't have to issue checks or stand in lines to pay as in the post paid system. The provide is Airtel. I have been a faithful costumer to this company.
I call all the phones on the basis of the requirement and availability.
The hand phone is commonly called as the land line in my contry.OK?

Dear Balasri,
Glad to hear from you.
Yes, totally agree with you, using prepaid is easier
to control our calling expenses. We tend to spend more
on post-paid lines. Normally business people prefer to
use post-paid lines. However, making casual calls using
prepaid is more appropriate.
Thanks for sharing, cheers and do keep in touch!

Hi Iriene, here a mobile phone is called a 'kinito' which comes from the word movement. Everyone seems to have one and they are in constant use, especially when driving. I buy a card from the supermarket with nine euros credit and the nice man puts it in for me as I am useless at anything like that. The card is from a company called Cosmote. They don't work very well though, to get a reception from the house I have to hang over the balcony as far as I can and if it's winter and the shutters are shut there is no reception at all. I only use it from the house when there's a power cut and the landline goes down.

Hi Iriend, nice to talk to you again. I saw your comment earlier on my alerts and went to see your picture comment, it was there. I'm glad to hear you like my little fishing village, I must get out with the camera and put some more local sites up, including the fishermen.

Dear thea09,
kinito sound like kinetic...any relations? Both also about movement.
You are using the card - we call it pre-paid here. Wow, you are so
lucky to have nice man to help you on this. My second sister also
asked the guy who sell the prepaid card to load for her.
The Cosmote lines are really bad...poor reception!
A few years ago, when I was in KLCC Suria besides the Petronas Twin Towers
at certain part of the building, there is no line / reception at all. I
thought my cell phone was spoilt
Thanks for sharing, btw I left a comment at your photo session.
It is my first time leave photo comments, just wonder whether
it works...

Dear Ritchelle,
It is wise for you to choose prepaid as it is more economical
especially if we are not heavy usage caller. Globe Telecom is
providing both prepaid and post paid services in your country,
it is really a big market out there for telecommunication.
Texting or sms are very popular among cell phone users.

Iriene.. we are in the same line.. I mean I was thinking of this discussion earlier, but didn't have the time to do it.. I have been really busy don't know doing what.. so, since you started it, good for me to post a response too..
Now, let me just briefly go through your question:-
1) Prepaid or post paid? Why? I am using Prepaid
2) What is the name of the Line Provider/ Mobile Operator? DIGI
3) What do you normally call: handphone or cell phone or mobile phone? I call it mobile phone
In deed yes, it is quite common now in Malaysia for everyone to have a mobile phone, and of course some of them even have 2 to 3 phones number (I used to carry 3 phone numbers with 3 phones, and after which I got a phone that can have a dual SIM card)..

You used to have 3 mobile phones, 3 numbers ? Are you a broker,
remisier or ??? Amazing!! Why you need so many??
Oh yes, DIGI is the leading provider of prepaid...

hehehe... yup, all thanks to our hard work in MyLot and I am still enjoy every bit of it here.. :)
And for the 3 mobiles phones and number? I was all initially using 016, and later due to some friends are using 012, and the Company needs enough quota to sign up for free lines, I acquire 012.. and at the same time, I have a office mobile so that clients can only reach me within my office hour and not after..
So, there ends me with 3 numbers.. but now I am back to the yellow man, and is happy with it.. coz I get my bonus every time I top up my phone...

I am using postpaid as I don't fancy the need to top up my pre-paid everytime the credit has been used up. It is kind of convenience to use the postpaid. I normally use my mobile phone for calling and receiving calls from friends and colleagues. It is more mobile as compared to the fix line.

Glad to hear that you are a post paid user. My family
and I are post user too, but my sisters are using pre-paid,
I always heard them saying need to top up, it is quite a
hassle when we need to make an urgent call, and we are out
of credit -sigh-
Thanks for droppin by, hope to hear your views on my other

I do use Mobile phone and in our country we call it as mobile phone. I use prepaid only and I do not like Post Paid. Chances of misusing the phone will be more in case of Post paid than in case of Pre paid. I use Hutch and now Hutch is sold to Vodapone. So, I am Vodapone user, in our country Mobile operators are Vodapone, Reliance,Airtel, Bsnl and Idea provide services..

Dear madhuvamsi,
It is true, we can limit our call expenses when we use prepaid services.
We can have the control over it, but by using post paid, we can't monitor
it. I do end up with high billing at certain months. Sometimes when
I called my friend and have nice things to chat, we overlook that
the calls is quite expensive especially during 'peak' hours -
day time is more costly!
Thanks for sharing the nice information above, really appreciate it!

i've been using prepaid ever since i have a cellphone. it's been years since they offered post paid here but i never did think of availing one. I'm not into texting or calling. I only use or hold my phone when i received a text, someone's calling me or i need to text a message or call someone. unlimited credit will be useless for me then..

You are using the airtel prepaid services...at least you can control

sometimes tend to overspend on my post paid line. There is one time
it reached RM500.00 per month due to my roaming services that I
activated when I went abroad

sms / texting in the Asia Pacific region...now I was

Fantastic, this means that the people of Philippines
will spend quite a lot of their income in communication.
This prove that the people of Philippines are very thoughtful
and always 'keep in touch!' Keep it up!

Hi there Iriene88,
I guess today, nobody can live without a cellphone. I use a pre-paid account. Why? Because I dont call out much. I am a stay at home mother so basically I am always at home. I dont need to call out much and even if I do, I use the fixed line. And many people call me on my fixed line too. My cellphone is only handy during the weekends when I go out. I use Maxis. It rocks as it gives me many freebies. I call them handphones. But in myLot, I call it cell phone as it sounds more universal?

Great job..Oh yes, Maxis Rocks, many freebies ~ X-pax?
By the way, your land line is it on Merdeka line promotion?
My eldest sister is using the Merdeka line whereby she have
to pay RM66 monthly. She can make unlimited calls from her
landline to another landline anywhere in Malaysia. It is worth
it for those heavy callers.

Iriene88,
I use a post-paid service because the bill is paid by my company. The service provider is Maxis Communications Malaysia. I choose Maxis and remain a faithful customer is because Maxis is customer-friendly and provides my needs. If I encounter any problems, the customer-friendly staff solves my problems most of the time immediately. Most of all, they give me good rebates for my bills. I was even invited for a sumptious dinner for discussion on how to provide better services. We in Malaysia call, 'hand-held phone'but later popularly call, 'handphone.' All the Best.

Dear James,
It is good that your company pay for your mobile phone bills.
Post paid definitely is a good choice for business purposes.
I can't imagine you have to rush to top up the credit when
you need to make an urgent call to client, that is not feasible
at all! I heard that Maxis is the leader in post paid service provider.
From what you mentioned, MAXIS has a very good customer service...
that should be the way in service industry!
thanks for dropping by and take care!

I have a prepaid phone because its the cheapest option for me. I usually don't use my cell phone, except in emergency situations. And, where I live we always call them cell phones, although some people call them mobile phones (but thats rarely). I've never heard of the term "handphone"...

Dear linkmaster111,
Welcome to myLot and I am really glad to have you here
Yes, it is quite weird to call it 'handphone', but most Malaysian
call it that way..may be because we always hold it in
our hands. Sometimes we do call it cellphone or mobile phone too!
Using prepaid is much cheaper if you are not a heavy caller.
It is more for emergency and for receiving calls.
I do agree with you on this point..

I am not sure about your country, but getting a postpaid is so much cheaper and convenient. If you are worried about overspending, you can in fact ask the telco to set a limit of your choice! Prepaid is such a hassle.

Dear cooldude_no1,
I too are post paid user. I heard from my second sister that every now
and then she need to top up her prepaid until she always have extra
unused credit. It is quite a hassle that if she did not top it up,
she could not make outgoing call but she still can receive calls.
My Maxis post paid line sometimes have good promotion too. If I take
up a certain promotion, assuming a minimum of RM150.00 per month, they
will give a free handphone but must subsribe a specific period of time.
Thanks for sharing, all the best!

I have used Nextel as my cell phone provider for many years...never pre-paid. I originally chose Nextel for it's 2-way option, which I still find very convenient. I probably use my cell phone more than I use a landline phone because I'm regularly at different places throughout the day...at home...at our business...or on the road...and it's easier for people to reach me if they just call my cell.

Nextel definitely has continuously providing a very good service

percentage of users :)
It is true, most of us now are using more cell phone than the
landline. At home I had converted my land line for fax machine
to receive incoming faxes.
Truly agree with you, using cell phone is much convenient
