I am planning on starting an indoor greenhouse this winter. I have two things in mind for doing this. One is to have my plants ready to plant and growing well long before planting season. I think that having a headstart on my plantsd may help me to actually get better production out of them. Secondly, I plan to grow plenty of plants, enough that I will be able to actually sell some of them and make a little bit of extra money. I have been doing a bit of research on indoor greenhouses, but one can never have enough information and advice to consider. My question to all of you is, have you ever had an ondoor greenhouse? What have you found works best to grow your plants this way?

We haven't started our indoor greenhouse yet but I have a space in the basement that is a room closed off from the rest of the basement. I think it will be the perfect spot to start our little greenhouse. It's about 5 feet wide by 15 feet long. It only has one little window but I will be using lights to help with that. We are pretty excited to see how we do at growing things from seed instead of spending all the money we did this year to buy plants already started. I tried growing herbs indoors last year during the winter but we just don't have the light as our windows are small. The only place we might grow herbs would be in the kitchen be we are already using all the space around the two small windows as it is. We would grow any plants to sell as our yard is plenty big to hold all we could grow indoors.

Just yesterday, I began a test run with some seeds I have harvested myself. I am documenting everything that I do so I can go over it all later after I see the results. I hope my plant seeds grow! I have many houseplants already, I think the number is near 30! So, I think that by starting plantys from myt existing ones as well as growing some from seed, I will do well when it is time to sell them. My backyard is not the biggest, but it will accommodate what I am doing. Over time, I hope that my investment will truly pay off.

I have an indoor greenhouse room that I also use for my laundry room. I know it sounds like an odd combination, but my plants love the extra heat and humidity. I like it because it gives me a place to winter over some of my outdoor plants, and a place to start new ones for springtime. I have geraniums that have survived around 10 years this way (dig them up in the fall, winter them over in the greenhouse, and do new starts for springtime planting.) With starting seeds for new plants, I do it a little bit different, and it works out well. Instead of just starting them in flats, I start them in those little cube thingies. I save those big plastic cake holders that pre-made birthday cakes come in, and use those for a temporary mini-greenhouse until they sprout. The clear plastic high domed covers keep the moisture and warmth in, and the bottom cake tray keeps the water from leaking out all over. Works good for me lol. I don't sell my starts, and use most of them for my own gardening needs. I do give a lot to friends and family though. An indoor greenhouse is wonderful to have, especially if you have a spot that gets plenty of natural sunshine! Good luck!

The idea of growng plants in the laundry room is a great one, infortunately for me, my laundry room is maller that the room I am using for my indoor greenhouse. This room also happens to be one with absolutely no windows, so I have to use artificial light in there. I am also considering trying to utilize space in my livign room where the natural light would hit them well. Thank you for the insight and information.
