i have a laptop and as far as i remember i have had left in on for a maximum of 20 hours i guess, i don't think laptops are actually meant to run that long, still there is no problem to it except it gets really slow and laptops also don't have ample space for cooling so that one could run for days and all...
of course if you have a desktop you could run it for days, so what is the maximum time you had left your computer switched on ??

Hi voldrox,
I think I have had left my computer on for more then 20 hours before. That is when I download something. And I am using a laptop. I don't know if there is any side effect for that. I am just afraid my laptop burned because of that. But usually I shut down my computer for one or two hours before turn it on back now.

We have an online business so we have two and sometimes three computers on all day at our home! We do turn them off at night, but occasionally we have forgotten to, or been dowloading something and left it when went to bed and the computer has stayed on for around 40 hours!
Most computers can handle staying on for long periods, but I think that the monitors do not like it as mine is not well at the moment!

just take care that the laptop bottom is properly spaced away from the ground so as to let it enjoy a nice space for ventilation, keeping laptops on bed or sofa isn't good, it blocks the vents, and most people actually do that finding it more convenient to use it on the bed or sofa.

Yeah Rawbill
i have to agree sometimes we often forget to switch off the computer, 40 hours is quiet a long time, yeah desktops can handle it unless it has got heating issues and yeah monitors do need a lot of energy, so it is better to turn them off if not the computer... have a nice day Rawbill

Oh my goodness I think there was a time when my computer was switched on for a good 3 days, it was when I was downloading a rather large file via torrent so I kept my computer and my internet connection on.
I do have a laptop and I keep it on a minimum of 18-20 hours a day, I bought a cooling pad for it and I keep a small electric fan, the really small ones that have come out lately, that I keep directed to the computer, it helps with the cooling and enables me to keep my computer for longer times. Yes, the heat does slow down the laptop if you keep it on too long. but maybe you can try what I did and maybe it can help you keep your laptop on longer. c",)

hmm chaime, you are right, cooling pads are good for laptops, i have to try one as well, well your desktop was on for a good 3 days but since it is a desktop it won't really matter that much, yeah but laptops shouldn't be run for that long, i have also run my laptop around 12 hours long and it starts to show signs by slowing down, i should really be getting myself a cooling pad i keep on running my laptop for that long... thanks for sharing and have a good day chaime!

I have left it on for almost the whole day. After a few a days i had left it on for almost around 3 days as i wanted to download movies. For cooling purpose i had to open a side of my cabinet and also open the window do that the system does not get heated.

just don't keep your cabinet in a horizontal manner, i don't think i need to tell you that coz then the dust will accumulate faster and you know it, anyways i just felt the need to tell you that coz i have seen people keep their cpu's that way with open cabinets!

Wel, in our office, PC's are switched on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And there are around more than 70 PCs who run like that. I don't know. Our systems admin told us that our computers will automatically update themselves when we turn them on 24/7

Hello,
I one time left my computer on for about 19 hours, and I was on it for the whole time completing an assignment from start to finish. It definitely wasn't good for the computer then. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

the longest that I had my computer running was three weeks to a month. But before i did that i made sure that the computer casing is well-ventilated as to prevent overheating. I also turn off the monitor if i'm not using it to "save" electricty.

The most I have left it on is about 2 or 3 days. I get a bit worried I am going to do some damage to it if I leave it on for too long but I like to keep it on so I can check my emails all the time to see if anything has happened. I only really have it off when I am asleep but I am really trying to use my Macbook less as it isn't really very good always being on the same thing all day.

But u can use a cooling fan with laptops too,as i am using one right now.I usually leaves my laptop when im too sleepy,it turns off automatically into sleep mode itself so nothing to worry about and just like i have said,im using a cooling fan where my laptop sits in.I left it running for 24 hours.
But my kids pc,oh well,my youngest son sometimes always forget to turn off and then the next day his brother sees it's still on standby mode.

Hi jaiho i see you are using cooling pads underneath your laptop, it is a good idea, i am thinking of getting one someday, yeah it helps a lot, but also don't keep your laptop on sleep mode everday, it sometimes needs rebooting and your system is actually kinda refreshed when you reboot, so also let it switch off at time, take care about your kids, don't let them get addicted with the computers hehe
have a nice day jaiho
