What was it? How did you get over it (if you have) I'm a recovering shoplifter. I had been stealing since I was a little kid (I believe pre school actually) but I didn't think anything of it. The real compulsion didn't start until about 2006. For me it was kind of a power high. I haven't stolen in almost 2 months. But it's really hard. I was really good at it too.
I did drugs but I quit that really fast! (only MJ, cocaine once, by accident...yes really)

yes, and i am addicted to soft drinks even though i know it is poison. colas, and many other foods, contain fructose. it is sweeter than sugar. it is used as a substitute for sugar. but unlike sugar, the body rejects fructose like it rejects ethanol. and ethanol is considered legally a toxin. ever wonder why drinking lots of colas will never satiate your hunger just as sugar does? because it is not absorbed or metabolized by the brain. thus your body doesn't know it's being filled up with glucose.

Recently I had to admit to myself that I was a gambler, I was addicted to playing online fruit machines, it started off as fun, entertainment to keep my mind off my troubles I am experiencing in life, I would win at first and then I would start to lose, I was forever chasing my losses, I tried hard to restrict gambling to once a week, I failed. So I closed my gaming accounts, and I am currently going cold turkey. I realized that I was losing too much money, money I couldn't afford to lose, it was all or nothing, I am really angry with myself for getting into such a bad way, but hopefully now I've stopped I can fill my time with things that don't cost money.

It's the adrenaline rush. Gambling is one of the easiest things to become addicted too. it thrives off of greed.

I was addicted to shoplifting once too. I was in 2nd grade and my mother would take me with her to department stores. When she looked at clothes, I would go look at the jewelry sections and pocket a hair pin or some other accessories. I did it a few times until I got caught. My mother didn't yell at me but she looked so disappointed and sad that it made me stop. She has enough troubles and I shouldn't have to cause her anymore pain. An addiction to anything is bad since it means losing self control.
